The > confidence Pamela has given me will impact positively on my everyday practice, > I am truly inspired... > > PSYCHOTHERAPIST WHY TAKE THIS COURSE Children’s natural affinity with stories gives us an incredibly powerful, non-directive way to help emotionally distressed and abused young people, who can sometimes be hard to reach in any other way.  On this practical live training event you will learn how to tap into your own metaphorical brain to create therapeutic stories and metaphors ‘in the moment’ that are appropriate to each individual’s circumstances and experiences. Throughout the day Pamela – a master storyteller and highly experienced psychotherapist – draws on her own case histories, metaphor and story examples as she guides you through the steps involved in ‘thinking on your feet’ and creating a story yourself in the moment.  By the end of the day you will have lots of new, innovative ways to engage with and help distressed children deal with the experiences they have had – whilst also offering them hope, understanding, and new ways of thinking and feeling about life and themselves. Indeed, you may well be surprised at how quickly positive psychological changes occur as a result of the stories you will create and tell ‘in the moment’. Stories also play a crucial role in child development – through the ways the different characters think, act and overcome difficulties, children gain important templates for understanding the world and dealing with the challenges and situations they will meet in life – both now and in the future. They are a wonderful way to help build resilience. Storytelling and the careful use of therapeutic metaphor are crucial elements of successful counselling and psychotherapy – they help bypass assumptions and rigid thinking to offer a new, broader way of looking at things, awaken innate resources and offer crucial hope – just what struggling children need… > Wonderful, interactive online course. BABY PROJECT – WORKING WITH BABIES TO INCREASE EMPATHY

By Inclusive Solutions

This radical way of building empathy is inspired by the work of the ‘Roots of Empathy’ organisation in Canada. Roots of Empathy (ROE) is dedicated to building caring and peaceful societies through the development of empathy in children. It is a parenting education programme for elementary school students (between the ages of 3 to 14 years) based on monthly visits to the classroom by a parent and infant from the school neighbourhood. COURSE CATEGORY Behaviour and Relationships Autism and Communication Meeting emotional needs DESCRIPTION This radical way of building empathy is inspired by the work of the ‘Roots of Empathy’ organisation in Canada. As Mary Gordon founder of this way of working describes: > ‘By regular visits to the classroom of local mums and their children build an > empathic relationship with the baby. > > MARY GORDON Roots of Empathy (ROE) is dedicated to building caring and peaceful societies through the development of empathy in children. It is a parenting education program for elementary school students (between the ages of 3 to 14 years) based on monthly visits to the classroom by a parent and infant from the school neighbourhood. We teach teachers and educators to help children to observe, over the school year, how their baby forms an attachment to his or her parent. Children are encouraged to record how the infants develop. The children learn to spot their babies cues and unique temperament, while celebrating developmental milestones. Children are prepared for responsible and responsive parenting as they increase their knowledge about human development, learning, and infant safety. The baby project program brings about the development of empathy and emotional literacy: 1. As children learn to take the perspective of others they are less likely to hurt through bullying, exclusion, aggression, and violence. 2. Children learn how to challenge cruelty and injustice in their own classroom. 3. Messages of social inclusion and activities that are consensus-building contribute to a culture of caring that changes the tone of the classroom. 4. Involving fathers and men provides rich models of male nurturance TESTIMONIALS > ‘13% increase in empathy scores for our year 1s’ > ‘Years 2s empathy had increased by 35%’ > ‘Now that I am older I can be happy for other people’ (6 year old) > ‘Everyone is special – thats the truth – but when I was small I thought its > not fair when someone got a present and I didn’t’ (7 year old) > Dramatic improvements in children taking responsibility for actions and being > less defiant over the year of the project. LEARNING OBJECTIVES 1. Understanding of method and approach to building empathy with babies 2. Full understanding of background to this approach 3. Practical advice received as to how to set up baby project in classrooms across school WHO IS IT FOR ? * Teachers * School leaders * Project Coordinators * Social Care COURSE CONTENT * We will provide theoretical and evidence back ground to impact of this work. * We will describe existing UK school based work. * We will inspire staff in attendance to want to actively engage in this work * There may even be a baby to hold!!

Dare to Lead

By Nexus Human

Duration 3 Days 18 CPD hours This course is intended for Team leaders, managers, executives, and other business and IT professionals who lead others as well as Individual contributors ready for transformational self-development as a leader. Overview Recognize vulnerability as the emotion we feel during times of uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure. Explain why courage requires vulnerability. Establish a link between what I learned and behaviors I want to change. Recognize the critical role that self-awareness plays in daring leadership. Give examples to support how armor - not fear -is the greatest obstacle to daring leadership. Identify the four skill sets that make up courage: rumbling with vulnerability, living into our values, BRAVING trust, and learning to rise. Recognize that courage is a collection of four skill sets that are measurable, observable, and teachable. Recognize that vulnerability is the birthplace of many of the behaviors that define daring leadership, including creativity, accountability, and difficult conversations. Give examples of why daring leadership requires showing up for hard conversations and rumbles, including giving and receiving feedback. This workshop is all about your own leadership self-awareness, identifying your call to courage as a leader and the learning, practice and integration of the four courage skills sets so you can show up authentically in life and leadership. Dare to Lead? is the ultimate playbook for developing brave leaders and courageous cultures. The greatest barrier to daring leadership is not fear; the greatest obstacle is armor ? how we self-protect when we feel uncertainty, risk and emotional exposure. Learn the skills to move from armored leadership to daring leadership. Daring leaders are self-aware, know how to have hard conversations, hold themselves and others accountable, build trust, lead with empathy and connection, take smart risks that lead to innovation, reset quickly after disappointments and setbacks, and give and receive feedback.
