I started my journey with rescue dogs in 2006 at Nottingham Trent University, where I did two degrees with canine-specific modules focused on behaviour. I brought my first rescue dog home in 2007, Scrappy the Jack Russell had an entire fleet of behavioural problems, severe separation anxiety, a lack of impulse control, no bite inhibition, he was extremely reactive and terrified of other dogs, and it took many years to help him, and initially, I did everything wrong, I made massive mistakes! My approach to dog training and behaviour modification has completely changed from the early days. Balanced dog training methods appeared to help, and I was desperate to fix my dog. I got it wrong, my dog suffered as a consequence. I do bad, I feel bad, and things got worse before they got better because of this. What I should have been doing is helping my dog choose a more desirable behaviour in a kind, compassionate force-free way. My dog forgave me and fortunately I become an expert in reactivity and aggression in terriers, hounds, UK and imported rescues, but those mistakes still haunt me. I have spent over 12 years dedicating my life to training and working with severely reactive and aggressive rescue dogs, all while promoting no-pain, no-fear and no-force dog training. I do good, I feel good. Training should not make you or your dog feel bad, it should be uplifting, enjoyable and both of you should be working as a team. I believe in inclusivity, whatever your background my only interest is helping you help your dog. This is my story. In loving memory of Scrappy, to whom I will always owe everything!

Based on the Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire border, Red Robin Dog Training offers force-free one-to-one training and behaviour solutions in NG16 and surrounding areas. My training ethos is based around positively reinforcing desired behaviours without the use of aversive methods, behaviour modification using the most up to scientific research into how dogs learn, and making training fun via the use of concept training and games. I have found play to be one of the most effective ways to improve the dog-human relationship, increase confidence and to create positive association for anxious or fearful dogs. I work with all breeds, from miniature Mexican Hairless and Chihuahuas to Boerboels and Bull Terriers. Puppies from 8 weeks and rescued street dogs from abroad, and I love them all. I am fully insured and qualified and my training is always ongoing to ensure I stay up-to-date. If you are looking for basic training for your puppy or adult dog, or find yourself struggling with any behavioural issues your dog may have such as jumping up, pulling on the lead, poor recall, lead reactivity towards other dogs, people, traffic or any other triggers, noise sensitivity, any anxiety-based behaviours, hyperactivity, separation distress, resource guarding or anything else, please get in touch. I offer force-free one-to-one puppy training, basic training for adult dogs, behavioural consultations and multi-session training packages. Following the pandemic, I continue to offer video consultations as an option for those who are shielding or may just prefer this to a face-to-face session.

I have over 20 years of experience in the behaviour and training of dogs and am a member of the Kennel Club Accredited Instructors. I have a Diploma in Canine Behaviour, and am a full member of INTO Dogs, ICAN and The Pet Professional Guild. My passion is working with dogs to help them reach their full potential in a fun, fear free way, whether they are working and competing dogs, fearful rescues or family unit members. I work completely on a positive reward basis, and as an ex Veterinary Nurse I also understand the anatomical and physical restraints that some dogs have, and will work with owners to overcome the problems. I have a special interest in arthritic dogs as per my Canine Arthritis Management qualification. As both a trainer and a behaviourist, I am fully insured and offer both group classes or one to one behaviour assessments and training. Debbie Goodwin Pawsitive Dog Training I run a Rescue and Rehoming Service for my breed, Papillons, and I have extensive knowledge on rescue dog behaviour, particularly the fearful foreign dogs. I regularly, successfully compete in agility, scentwork, showing and obedience myself. Behaviour consultations typically last an hour (or more if needed) to enable me to understand your dogs issues, to suggest a way forward and to start a programme. This will be followed up with a full written history and plan. Follow up visits very much depend on the issue, the implementation of the behaviour modification plan and the individual dog. General Training for dogs and puppies can be in either a class situation or one to one training. Some dogs do really well in class, whilst others need some one to one training first, especially where a class situation is too stressful. Again, it is very much dependent on what you wish to achieve with your dog, the dog itself, and its progression as to how many sessions you will need. The cause and motivation for the behaviour will be fully explained and a staged programme of behaviour modification advised. You will receive a written report and advised of follow up visits. I am able to provide a secure field for training on a Sunday afternoon so please contact me if required.
