“Filmmaking is a chance to live many lifetimes” - Robert Altman -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Film Production Course is led by highly experienced videographer and cinematographer Max Jewell-Smith, and award-winning actor and producer Henry Hereford, who has been working in the industry for more than 20 years in the UK, Australia and the US. Henry is a producer with the production company, Fluffy Cat, who have worked on films such as For The Love Of George, To Leslie, and Well Behaved Woman, so he has plenty of unique insight to share with students. With a mix of technical skills, script writing and acting, students on our Film Production course will work together to create a short film that they will showcase on Friday. WHEN AND WHERE? The Film Production Course takes place in Cranleigh Arts Centre, around 20 minutes from Guildford. The venue has a professional theatre, a sprung dance floor for choreography sessions, dressing rooms, and lots of great areas for filming and multimedia activities, so it's the perfect spot for our aspiring performers to learn in. MA Filmmaking

An intensive two-year course with a School located in the heart of London, the MA Filmmaking trains to a professional level in a full range of filmmaking skills. Students leave with a portfolio of directing, cinematography, editing, producing, production design and sound credits. The school produces a huge output of films each year on this particular programme, many of which are screened at key festivals annually, previously winning many prizes, including at Locarno, Berlinale, Edinburgh, LaCinef (Cinéfondation). Learning is based on short film production and our students make a new film each term. Each term these film exercises become more technically sophisticated, more considered and more complex in their ambitions. The school specifies the skill base for each exercise, providing the equipment and training students to new levels in each of the various craft skills. Students make all aesthetic decisions while solving problems similar to those faced by professional units, on a steeply increasing slope of difficulty. The work is constantly assessed and critiqued. This is the core of the London Film School method. Students learn by applying themselves to aesthetic and practical problems generated by the actual process of filmmaking.

Screen and Film School invites you to get creative with this degree course, a course which has everything you will need to succeed in the fast-moving world of design within the screen and film industry. Talented individuals with these skills are in high demand, and we’ll give you the exact launchpad you’ll need to succeed upon graduating. This degree course has been developed to reflect the recent huge surge in demand for professional, technically skilled production design graduates who are equipped with vital creative, logistic and production skills, who are ready to enter into the industry. Fundamental to the delivery of this course is the teaching of production design within the broader Film School environment. This unique shared arrangement will enable you to hone specialist design skills in the classroom and test them out in live film projects. You will also gain an understanding of your place within film production and build a network of peers, alongside whom you can progress throughout your education and then on into the workplace.

The BA (Hons) Film Business & Production degree reflects current demands for professionally ready graduates equipped with the vital creative, business and entrepreneurial skills to navigate the modern film, screen and media environment.
Employing a mix of practical exercises and critical reflection, this introductory day course provides an overview of fundamental techniques for recording and editing voice, ambiences and sound effects for podcasts, video/film and art installations or just for fun. The course uses industry standard software and introduces a range of popular, high quality microphones and portable recording devices. The course has enough flexibility to be steered by the individual interests of the participants, but you will generally cover; the properties of sound, microphone selection and placement, gain structure, effective planning, noise limiting and reduction, sound editing, dynamics, sound processing and spatial effects. If desired, we can look at a variety of techniques for improving sound quality and recording audio from video conferencing, as we all find ourselves working and interacting in this manner every day. Computer experience is required.
