Our MA in Screen and Film Production could enable you to advance your career, develop and enhance your skillset, and align yourself with top industry professionals.

Through research-based practice this new MA puts you and your aspirations at the centre of your learning, whilst refining your chosen specialist pathway.    

Our industry-led course allows you to design and realise your own bespoke educational experience. Through your mentor, an industry expert who will be aligned to your industry specialism, you will gain invaluable insight into the film, screen and television industries.  

This MA supports individual development as well as collaborative practice. You will have access to all the latest industry level production sets, studios, technology and resources to bring your projects to life. 

Opportunities exist to collaborate with practitioners from other arts disciplines to enhance and inform your practice, through partnerships with the BIMM Institute and the Institute for Contemporary Theatre.  

Whether you want to write, direct, produce, shoot or edit you will be able to develop micro-projects, such as trailers and pitches to gain insight into your research project and its outcomes.    

 

 

This course is validated by BIMM University and taught at Screen and Film School. Upon successful completion, students receive a Masters Degree from BIMM University.

The MA in Screen and Film Production allows you to utilise our innovative personalised curriculum, deciding upon a specialism and putting that skill into focus. The areas of practice-based research are wide and bespoke to you but are illustrated by the following examples:

Producer who wishes to specialise in developing distribution pathways for a feature film.

Sound Designer who wants to refine their craft and specialise in foley.

Director of Photography who wishes to develop their specialism in filming in natural light.

Director who wants to develop their skills in drama reconstruction within the context of documentary.

Screenwriter who wishes to develop a project to move onto the greenlight phase of production.

Production Designer who wants to develop their practical and creative skills for film and television.

Editor who wishes to develop post-production skills in editing drama.

A visit to a major Film Festival will broaden your view of our industry. There is a £1000 discount for current Screen and Film School students and alumni, a £500 kickstart fund towards your final major project and support in raising additional funds.      

Industry engagement is embedded into your MA course: there will be opportunities for work experience through our wide range of highly reputable industry partners 

All MA Screen and Film Production students will graduate with a major screen & film project demonstrating their specialism, a network of industry professionals and a sound understanding of how to navigate the film and screen industry to build a successful and sustainable career.

Minimum Requirements

A good Degree (normally 2.2 or above) or considerable experience in a relevant field. 

All applicants will be subject to interview and a portfolio may also be requested for Recognition of Prior Certified or Experiential Learning (RPCEL). 

English language requirements 

IELTS 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in other elements.

Student funding

Subject to eligibility criteria applicants will be able to apply for a Post Graduate Loan for tuition fees.

Alumni and student discount

Screen and Film School alumni and current students will receive a tuition fee discount of £1,000 on full-time MA courses and £500 per year on part-time MA courses.
