WORKING WITH SCRIPT: TURNING WORDS INTO PERFORMANCE

By Fay Beck Studio

AN ONLINE COURSE TEACHING YOU HOW TO WORK WITH SCRIPTS FROM SCRIPT ANALYSIS TO CHARACTER EMBODIMENT USING BECK EMOTIONAL ACCESS TECHNIQUE An actor’s work with the script begins in analysis. However it must end with performance. But how exactly does one move from the information gained during the breakdown phase to embodiment of the character? It is certainly not a straightforward process and it involves a number of steps. When we are talking about embodiment we mean that our bodies and our emotional instruments must be engaged. So, one way to think about this is that we are moving from the cerebral realm (our understanding of the character) to the physical and emotional. The technique developed by the studio’s founder Beck Emotional Access Technique or BEAT for short bridges this gap between the realm of thoughts and understanding, the physical world of behaviour and the internal emotional world which only you experience but of course we, the audience, sense. BEAT has revolutionising actor training by bridging these realms through a set of intuitive exercises known as the BEAT Scales. Actors trained in this technique find it easy to not only access emotions safely, but to also make fine adjustments which lead to deep and nuanced performances. Over the course of 5 weeks, we deliver powerful technique for character embodiment to help you leave behind confusion, uncertainty and approximation. Instead, you will feel empowered through a no nonsense approach that puts you, the feeling body, in the centre. COURSE REQUIREMENTS * To join this course you will need at least intermediate acting skills. Good script analysis skills are presumed. * BEGINNING ACTORS: Consider doing the T102 Script Analysis Course. You will benefit much more from the present course if you are well equipped with sound script analysis skills. * INTERMEDIATE & EXPERIENCED ACTORS: This course is recommend for you! Actors who completed T102, the present course is designed to pick up from where you last left off! Pro Guitar Setup 1 Day Course

5.0(45)

By Guitar Tech Courses

PROFESSIONAL GUITAR SETUP COURSE INTRODUCTION The Pro Guitar Setup course is designed for up to 6 people and the aim is to teach the art of setting up both electric and acoustic guitars with confidence. The course is both theory and practical, we discuss all the setup points and how to adjust the guitar to get the best setup out of it, we use a Gibson Les Paul and a Stratocaster to demonstrate all of these points. Not only do we discuss and show you how to adjust the finer points but we also discuss and show how to maintain your instrument, covering fretboard treatment and fret polishing. WHO IS THE COURSE FOR? The course is designed for all levels from the complete beginner looking to get the best setup out of their guitar to working techs who want to brush up or who are broadening their skills. We are confident that you will leave with the knowledge and awareness to setup your own guitars and having had the practical application of this new found knowledge, the confidence, which is often lacking with the majority of people to maintain their instruments. WHAT WILL YOU LEARN? THEORY * Measure & Adjust Neck Relief: Detailed theory & practise. * Action heights: Correct Height, adjustments & discussion * Radius the Bridge Saddles * Floating Bridges: Balancing & Setting up * Intonation: Adjusting Intonation * Fretboard cleaning * Fret Polishing * Electrics: Maintaining the Pots and checking the electrics * Schematics * Pickup Heights * Re-Stringing: Gauges & how to string correctly * Cleaning: Different finishes and how best to clean PRACTICAL We then move on to putting these points in action starting with; How to assess the guitar with mind to all of the points, this is so key to gaining confidence and certainty, knowing the points to start with enables you to adjust safe in the knowledge that if you go too far with the neck relief you have a starting point and using certain increments you can be sure of how much adjustment you are making, it seems to be a common problem with people adjusting their own neck, not knowing a starting point and it is the very first thing that we check when setting up guitars.. The most important point is how much Relief is in the neck, this is measured using a Notched Straight edge for greater accuracy. We will also show you how to assess the neck relief by eye, this enables you to easily determine the relief in the neck without the use of any specific tools. Once the relief is measured we check the Action height at the 12th fret as well as at the 1st fret, this gives us a good picture of how the guitar is setup currently. With the Pro Guitar Setup Points that we give you, we are then able to look at where the guitar needs some work and then put that into action. Getting the balance between the neck relief and action heights is key to a good setup, with the guitar adjusted to where we want it we then go onto the maintenance part of the setting up. PERSONAL ATTENTION The course does have a set agenda but we often meander around topics and are happy to do so, most of us have had many different guitars and they nearly always have some curious tales and they are always good to discuss as they will bring up certain points about setup which will add to the discussion and possibly unraveling the complexity that is often misunderstood in getting your guitar setup right.

SOLD OUT! 16th May John Baker #Agent121. Looking for: YA/NA FANTASY, SFF, HORROR, ADULT FICTION

By I Am In Print

LOOKING FOR: YA/NA FANTASY, SFF, HORROR, ADULT FICTION John joined the agency in 2019 where, as a junior agent, he is focusing on building his own small, cultivated list, shaped around his passion for Science Fiction and Fantasy, alongside providing administrative support across the agency. John also leads the film & TV desk for the wider agency and is on the Association of Author’s Agent’s Bridge Committee. John is building a small but unique list of authors, who all share a passion for subverting expectations and creating rich new worlds of adventure. John is looking for anything under the broad church of SFF, from literary to pulpy, high fantasy to gritty urban, but he would especially love to hear from anyone under-represented in the genre, particularly neurodiverse writers. John is also keen to grow his horror list, but definitely in the vein of psychological terror more than straight gore-fest. In particular, John is looking for lush and inventive YA/NA fantasy, science fiction and horror, especially stories that challenge the tropes and expectations of the genre. He would love some near-future sci-fi or speculative, in the vein of Black Mirror‘s more uplifting episodes, (e.g. San Junipero), or a high-concept rom-com like Palm Springs. He’s also on the hunt for some grounded speculative takes on modern-day professions, such as medicine, law, policing, politics, espionage, and international relations. After falling head over heels for his first romantasy, John is keen to see more cosy low-stakes, high-charm stories, or sweeping fantastical love stories (not adverse to a bit of spice), especially from under-represented backgrounds. John is still searching for his beefy epic fantasy, but it needs to be breaking the mould in some way, Sanderson will always be the best at being Sanderson. Anything building from a Non-Anglo-Christian cultural background would be a great start. Horror-wise, gothic will always be a favourite and he loves a mythologically inspired scarefest. He’s keen to read an intelligent creature feature from the POV of the monster, or even something with a strong romantic element amongst all the gore. He’s open to projects at the more literary end of the spectrum, a rich magical realism, or something character-led yet supernatural and would love a high-concept mystery, in the vein of Stuart Turton. He’s not the best agent for military sci-fi or hard-SF and the right comedic fantasy has yet to hit his inbox, (please don’t comp Douglas Adams or Sir Terry). John would like you to submit a covering letter, 1-2 page synopsis and the first three chapters (or 10,000 words whichever is longest) of your manuscript in a single word document. (In addition to the paid sessions, John is kindly offering one free session for low income/under-represented writers. Please email agent121@iaminprint.co.uk [agent121@iaminprint.co.uk] to apply, outlining your case for this option which is offered at the discretion of I Am In Print).  By booking you understand you need to conduct an internet connection test with I Am In Print prior to the event. You also agree to email your material in one document to reach I Am In Print by the stated submission deadline and note that I Am In Print take no responsibility for the advice received during your agent meeting. The submission deadline is: Tuesday 7 May 2024

BREAK DOWN OF GUITAR COURSE TOPICS BY DAY DAY 1 BODY & NECK Wood choice and body design play a large part in the tone of an electric guitar. If you were to play several solid body guitars unamplified you’ll notice distinct differences between various wood types. A solid body that sounds good acoustically generally will sound good amplified. We’ll discuss the different woods used to make electric guitars and the effect of different body styles on tone and sustain. Just as wood affects the body, when making a neck you have to pay attention to wood choice in order to have a good sounding guitar. The hardware that goes into making a great guitar also plays a large role, not only the quality in the parts but also their fitting. You will be instructed on how best to fit all the component parts with skill and accuracy enabling you to create a great custom made guitar..
