bradwell blacksmiths - the iron lady

Natalie Bradwell is The Iron Lady, taking on any job in metal, except cars and horseshoes!  From working on docks and muddy sites, to breweries and farms, to chaotic sculpture studios and workshops, The Iron Lady has gained a range of experience in a short time. Spanning food, agriculture, oil and gas, manufacturing and arts industries – thanks to her ability to see metal as a material and communicate with clients how metal works for them. This obsession with metals; steels, copper, aluminium etc, the chemistry of change and our ability to manipulate are what drives Natalie to search for the next challenge and the next opportunity to learn. After some 15 years of experience, The Iron Lady frequently undertook private work whilst working for other companies – it all started with a falling down hay store with a salvaged forge, anvil, table, stick welder and grinder, and a trusty van. Now at her third workshop, Bradwell Blacksmiths is finally a full time concern, apprentice in tow and a light industrial workshop which is also a place of learning, experimentation, art and creativity. Most recently, The Iron Lady has started running courses in welding, fabrication, metalwork and blacksmithing, for beginners, companies and those wanting to improve their existing skills. With space and equipment for 4 people at a time, Natalie is now sharing what she has learnt from all the craftsmen and women from her past metal adventures. And so to many more adventures in metal for The Iron Lady!

I believe that everyone deserves to feel comfortable with their body, and that sexuality and difference should be celebrated. My ceramics and workshops explore this idea in a fun and beautiful way. Whether revealing the hidden body parts that few get to see, or putting an ear on a butter dish, Hot Fox Pottery ceramics are all unique and designed to be beautiful pieces of art that you can use every day. You can commission a special piece of pottery with your own body part rendered in clay, or choose a 'generic genital' version. It's not all body bits; there are octopus candelabras, jellyfish wall hangings, mugs, salt pigs, bowls etc. which you would be happy to give to your grandmother (or even someone younger!) Pieces can be ordered or have a look at my online shop to see what I have in stock. I run regular classes and you can book one-off workshops in my lovely loft studio in Brighton, and offer studio and kiln hire too.

Shiv Textiles is an independent, Brighton-based studio closing the loop on the fast-fashion industry. We rescue deadstock yarn destined for landfill and handcraft it into fine homewares, lifestyle accessories and sustainable weaving kits for you to give a new life at home. Meet the maker: Siobhan Martin Let me spin you a yarn… My studio is about weaving sustainability into the textiles industry. By putting a modern spin on a traditional craft, I want to show that it’s possible for us to enjoy quality products – pieces you really cherish – while minimising the impact we have on the planet too. Shiv Textiles was born in my bedroom in 2017. As an intern for big-name brands in the textiles and fashion industry, I’d been shocked by the amount of perfectly good materials going to waste. And I knew there had to be a better way. Fast fashion needs to take its foot off the pedal. So I began contacting mills and factories, buying their yarns, zips, threads, buttons – all destined for landfill – by the kilogram. And it’s from this that all those cushions, scarves and weaving kits are created. This process never gets beige-and-boring. You have to think on your feet. Design with what you have. Every box of upcycled materials that lands in my studio feels like a small victory. Buying with thought and care has never felt so important, and as I hope you’ll join me in honouring the lifecycle of our precious materials. And enjoy my textiles too.

Was set up by Alex Sutton-Vane to bring a wider range of quality art to children aged from 2yrs. It is based in Brighton and run through a unique art studio for children, offering a range of after school art clubs, art courses, pre school art with music and creative play, themed art parties and holiday art workshops. The philosophy behind Workshops For The Imagination is to allow creativity to thrive in an informal but structured environment. Using a wide range of materials and computer programmes children can invent, create and formulate ideas, allowing them to be free with their imagination. The workshop leaders are there to direct this process, instigate ideas and help solve problems. There is an emphasis on three dimensional design and model making using a wide variety of different materials including clay and modelling dough and exploring techniques such as paper sculpture, animation and model making.
