BELIEVE IN YOURSELF Founded in 1995, we are an all-age special school in the heart of Cleveland. Kilton Thorpe School converted to an Academy in 2012 and became Kilon Thorpe Specialist (KTS) Academy. Judged 'Outstanding' by Ofsted in May 2022, we welcome pupils aged 4 to 19 with an Education, Health and Care Plans which states a learning difficulty or disability. This can include children on the autistic spectrum and children with complex needs. With 170 pupils and over 100 teaching and support staff, we have high levels of staffing to ensure that all pupils receive excellent care, guidance and support. A multi-disciplinary team, which includes specially trained staff in nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy, work closely alongside our school staff to ensure that pupils make the progress they are able to make. Our facilities include Early Years Foundation Stage provision, a thriving 14-19 unit and specialist provision for pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties, as well as those with an autistic spectrum condition. In addition, we are proud of our specialist resources, which include a hydrotherapy pool, soft play area, ICT suite, sensory integration rooms and sensory light rooms. KTS Academy is a Unicef Rights Respecting School and achieved the Gold Rights Respecting Schools Award in 2022.

Our team of passionate flying instructors is focused on delivering the highest standard of training. They have a huge wealth of experience between them, to ensure you have professional and enjoyable tuition. Our fleet is tailored to training pilots from first pilot’s licence (PPL or LAPL) through to more advanced training (CPL, MEP class rating , single and multi engine Instrument Rating). We have worked hard to make sure we create a balance between professionalism and fun without being intimidating. Our base at Solent Airport, Hampshire is specifically designed as a flying school with a large classroom for ground school teaching, two FNPTII approved Diamond simulators (DA40NG and DA42NG) and several smaller briefing rooms for one-to-one teaching, along with a relaxing social space for enjoying hot or cold drinks. We could add lots of pictures and anecdotes here from our instructors’ past flying, but this isn’t about them, it’s about you and introducing you to the amazing world of flying. The flying school operates seven days a week and our door is always open, so feel free to drop by for a chat and a coffee, though please call first to make sure we’re not all up flying.
