This one day course will support teachers and RSE leads in special colleges and special schools with post 16 learners to deliver a meaningful curriculum through the Preparing for Adulthood outcomes. The course will explore key issues for older learners, including how to teach about practical aspects of relationships such as attraction and fancying people, starting relationships, negotiation and consent discussions, and how to keep yourself safe. Participants will leave with increased confidence to develop and deliver a skills-based, rights focused curriculum that will empower learners to be able to navigate their personal lives and relationships with autonomy.   Aim: To develop confidence to create and deliver an age-appropriate, rights based RSE curriculum for young adults with learning disabilities.   Outcomes: Participants will develop understanding of requirements for RSE for older learners, including the statutory guidance and preparation for adulthood outcomes, and how RSE can support independent living consider specific challenges young people with SEND may face in developing relationships and explore practical and creative ways to support relationship skill development explore strategies to address sexualised behaviour, and what to do if a learner begins or wants to masturbate in college   Who is this course for? This one day course is ideal for teachers and RSE leads working in special schools and tutors in colleges with older learners, up to age 25, and beyond.

LOOKING FOR: ADULT FICTION, NON-FICTION, MG/YA inc GRAPHIC NOVELS Gyamfia Osei has joined Andrew Nurnberg Associates Ltd and is looking for writers of Children's and YA, commercial adult fiction and narrative non-fiction.   Gyamfia began her career in publishing working as a Bookseller at Waterstones, before joining Caskie Mushens as a literary assistant in 2018. She relocated to Amsterdam for two years, where she managed international sales for The Pepin Press and held the role of Editor for Plural Magazine, before returning to London in 2021 to start building her own list of authors at The Good Literary Agency. Gyamfia is now an agent at Andrew Nurnberg Associates, representing a diverse list of clients writing children’s books and a bespoke adult list focusing on commercial fiction and narrative non-fiction. Gyamfia is currently looking for contemporary children’s stories that are full of heart and joy-driven books that celebrate kids from underrepresented backgrounds (think Clare Weze, Kimberly Whittam and Elle McNicoll). Unique picture books, funny middle-grade and teen projects (think Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging and Glow Up Lara Bloom) are currently at the top of her list this year. She is very interested in finding a graphic novel or illustrated project for either MG or YA readers.  She is very open when it comes to Children’s non-fiction but would be particularly interested to consider unique cookbooks aimed at young chefs, books exploring mental health/wellness and projects that bring the experiences of marginalised children to the forefront. In the adult fiction space, Gyamfia enjoys well-plotted, fast-paced narratives with authentic characters who lodge themselves in her mind long after she’s finished reading (think Big Little Lies, Verity and Girl A). She’s open to a broad range of genres, but would be particularly keen to see cosy crime, global stories and tightly plotted domestic noir.  In the adult non-fiction space, she would be happy to consider commercial narrative non-fiction and cultural history projects (think Brit(ish), It’s Not That Radical and Everything I Know About Love). Gyamfia would like you to submit a covering letter, 1 page synopsis and the opening three chapters (max 5,000 words). For picture books please send two texts and a covering letter. For non-fiction please supply a cover letter and proposal with up to 5,000 words of your sample text. LOOKING FOR: ADULT FICTION, NON-FICTION Publisher / editor Scott Pack is now in his third decade working in the world of books. During that time he has been Head of Buying for Waterstones, worked for publishers big and small - including a lengthy spell at HarperCollins - and taught numerous workshops and classes on all aspects of writing. These days he splits his time between writing his own books, editing other people's, teaching the editors of tomorrow as part of the Oxford Brookes University MA in Publishing, and he is one of the question setters for BBC's Mastermind. His latest book, Tips From A Publisher, is out now.  As a publisher, Scott has published across most genres in fiction and a wide range of non-fiction and is happy to read any style of writing. He will assess your sample and provide feedback on any issues he identifies, the manuscript's commercial potential and what steps he would advise before you submit to agents or publishers. Scott is very direct with his feedback, so expect robust, but always constructive, comments!
