Universal Yoga started in 2004 when Charlotta completed her Teacher Training Certificate and moved into the village, initially we ran classes at the Conygre Hall and the Congregational Church Halls in Timsbury, only in 2008 did we get a space of our own at Red Hill, soon outgrown, we decided to move to Dunkerton Hall, a beautiful little parish hall which we get to have all to ourselves. Universal Yoga, as the name implies is a centre for everyone, young and old, pregnant and babies. We are all from the Sivananda lineage and we strongly believe in the yoga of synthesis, meaning that each class should be a combination of postures, relaxation, breathing exercises and sometimes meditation. Both Charlotta and Becky are Senior Yoga Teachers and as such, run a Teacher Training course every year. We believe that nothing should stand between you and your yoga class, so if there are any financial concerns, please get in-touch to see if we can help in some way. Yoga means union, union of body and mind, union of you and me and union of us all with the planet. IH Bristol was started in 1987 as The Language Project by Val, while studying for her PhD. The school has been teaching students ever since and it is the biggest remaining family owned and operated language school in Bristol. We joined the International House global network of affiliated language schools in 2009 and are proud to be members of such a highly regarded, diverse and vibrant organisation. Over the course of the years we expanded into two beautiful period buildings in the Clifton distric and diversified into teacher training, exams, junior summer - and winter - school and foreign languages. In 2019-2020 we added a new custom-built student common room to our Queens Avenue building, furthering our ambition to always put the student experience first. IH Bristol aims to give back to the community: we have taught many refugee classes in Bristol and have been involved in development projects in Cuba, Angola and Vietnam. We adapter our buildings for Covid very early so that we could facilitate English exams for medical professionals needed by the NHS. And let's not forget our free exercises and our Phrase of the Day videos, which can help students worldwide to increase their knowledge on a daily basis. We are working towards making our operation more environmentally sustainable and have so far installed 100s of ultra low energy light fittings and fixtures and sophisticated heating controls. Angela Roberts is a long-term student of yoga and it continues to enrich and inspire her life. She has been teaching yoga since the 1990s and runs yoga classes in and around Bath. She is an accredited British Wheel of Yoga teacher, a Senior Yoga Alliance registered teacher and a Yoga Sports Coach. She has completed Paul Harvey's 3-year Professional Yoga Teaching and Therapeutic Healthcare Training Programme and continues to study with Paul (whose teacher was Desikachar). She is also co-director and teacher trainer on the 200 hour, Yoga Alliance registered, Yoga Bodhi Teacher Training Course held in Bath and a Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs teacher. She first came to yoga as a teenager through her interest in spirituality and meditation and her love of movement and dance later led her to asana practice. She is particularly interested in working with the breath and practising pranayama. She has had the privilege of studying under many wise and amazing teachers from different traditions but increasingly with those who directly follow the teachings of Śrī T Krishmacharya. Angela encourages enquiry and discovery, looking for ways to uncover and free tension patterns, to observe and to allow space for individual growth.
