Drawing from the international research and literature and our own experience over many years as educational psychologists of the challenges of children with major social and emotional needs, we will explore together what the best practice can and could look like. We explore the language of attachment and outline very practical classroom strategies. We look at what Psychology may help us in our understanding of children who have faced issues with love and attachment. We explore the feelings of being on a desolate island of relational poverty or to imagine swimming with sharks. We  explore the themes of violence, anxiety and experience of being a victim as young people grow older. We look at telling lies and explore how we can respectfully understand this. We reveal the new and innovative compass of vulnerability – the cognitive errors to which some are much more vulnerable. We look at triggers, self regulation and unpack a range of strategies.  Transference and counter transference are examined along with splitting, handling projected feelings, constancy and permanence. We explore what young people with these difficulties really need from us. We also spend time looking at the emotional impact on practitioners working with children with such needs and what helps at an personal and team level. We can all do something – we do not have to wait for expert therapists to arrive!  TESTIMONIALS > Very moving presentation > I will always try and think behind the behaviour now > It had a huge impact on all levels > We all seem to need it > Belonging and feelings are so important > Very user friendly > Excellent! Do you need dedicated time for your staff to understand the barriers faced by those experiencing poverty to accessing cultural spaces?   About this webinar   Both Kids in Museums and Children North East will share their insights into some of the barriers faced by families experiencing poverty when it comes to connecting with cultural spaces, and why this understanding is so important for all of us in the cultural sector.    This webinar will be led by Alison Bowyer, Executive Director of Kids in Museums, and Chloe Maclellan, Poverty Proofing Team Manager Communities, Early Years, Arts and Culture at Children North East.   They will be joined by Georgina Ascroft from Culture Hartlepool and Rebecca Maw from Jarrow Hall Anglo Saxon Farm, Village, and Bede Museum. Both Georgina and Rebecca will share some of their learning gained from the Poverty Proofing© process.   The session will help delegates to: * deepen their understanding of poverty in the UK * start to explore the connection between poverty and cultural space * gain insight into how poverty can impact a family’s chances of engaging with cultural places * think about how considerations around poverty impact on the experiences we provide to families in our own organisations.  Take a look at the full schedule  [https://kidsinmuseums.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Schedule-Making-your-Museum-Accessible-to-Low-Income-Families-06.03.24.pdf]   About the trainers Alison is committed to Kids in Museums’ mission that all children, young people and families should be able to visit UK museums and feel welcome. Poverty is growing in prevalence as a barrier to a family museum visit and Kids in Museums wants to raise awareness about how to address this.    Chloe is a strong advocate for positive change fuelled by community voice, working in partnership with organisations to engage in Poverty Proofing© interventions to bring about this change as well as engaging in strategic partnerships to spread awareness and understanding of Poverty in the UK.    Who should attend? This training is aimed at staff and leaders who work in museums, art galleries, heritage sites, and cultural and arts spaces, who are interested in developing and enriching their current offer with a better understanding of audiences experiencing poverty.

ASDAN is an education charity and awarding organisation providing courses, accredited curriculum programmes and regulated qualifications to engage, elevate and empower young people aged 11 to 25 years in greatest need. We define young people in greatest need as those living in poverty, without support for their emotional and social needs, those with a special educational need or disability, those not engaged or succeeding in their education, who miss an English and/or Maths pass at 16 or subsequently, and who are at risk of becoming NEET. Our goal is to engage them through relevant and motivating courses to achieve meaningful learning outcomes, which elevate them to go on to further education, training and work, and empower them to take control of their lives. We do this by developing courses with an accessible and practical pedagogy for learners; and by working with our partner educators to foster the personal, social and work-related abilities of young people in greatest need. We know the development of personal, social and work-related abilities is vital for learners of all abilities because: strengthening these abilities supports academic and vocational learning they are particularly effective in re-engaging young people in greatest need they are important for accessing knowledge and skills at work they are especially important for entry level work they equip learners to live well and make full use of their abilities We believe that young people should have the opportunity to discover, develop and make use of their abilities to affirm their identities, contribute to society, and challenge educational and social inequalities.

Clean Slate Training And Employment

clean slate training and employment

London

We want to see a world where people can provide for themselves and their family, where society addresses everyone’s needs and where it does not cost more to be poor. It should provide fair opportunity for all so anyone willing and able can access employment. Our job is to do everything possible to enable people to improve their financial wellbeing. Everyone needs to be able to manage their money well, find work and access every facility to help them do so, including online services. Clean Slate, in partnership with Quids in!, is re-writing the rulebook on helping low income households to become better off. We are proudly different by: Explaining to claimants, tenants and low-income earners what’s really going on, what to be cautious about and what opportunities exist Recognising and helping people to see their own abilities to help themselves and each other Focusing on the present and the future, not the past, and respecting people's need for something personalised and of practical benefit to them now and into the future Valuing people as integral to how we engage others from similar backgrounds and activating people as community activists by making them central within our enterprise Being motivated by social justice, tackling poverty and inequality and giving people a voice Making sustainability, independence, people’s trust and creating a real difference core to our work Clean Slate Training & Employment is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company in business to: Provide skills and training to people at risk of or affected by poverty and/or unemployment, and the people who work with them, so everyone can provide for themselves and their family and get involved in their communities Promote ways for people to ‘future-proof’ their finances and engage with digital life Create paid work and other opportunities for benefit claimants, social tenants and low-paid workers as stepping stones towards reaching their potential
