Jamal has an interest in the visual arts and music since he was 5 years old. He always had meticulous eyes when it comes to observe and artistically interpret the visual world. His creative abilities enabled him to draw and paint with ease. Old school observation based skills of drawing and painting feature his work that one rarely experiences nowadays in modern artworks. Stained Glassic has a commitment to never send a commission out until the artist and the client are fully satisfied with the final outcome.

My approach to teaching is based on flexibility, sharing what I’ve gathered about drawing and painting over the years, and variety. The main aim is to enjoy the process of creativity without the fear of making mistakes. In fact mistakes are encouraged early on and often as they universally lead to discoveries and insight. Even the Great Masters had to learn to paint, and yes, they certainly made plenty of mistakes along the way. For such a large, vibrant, and culturally rich city as Birmingham, it’s surprising that there is not a wider availability of art courses. Courses that cater for drawing in various media like charcoal and pastel, or painting in oil, acrylic, and ink. That’s why I have begun new courses that look to explore each of these in as much depth as possible, but without the academic rhetoric or complicated jargon, and with hands-on advice, constructive critique, and demonstrations. Art doesn’t have to be intimidating. My aim is to make it accessible, rewarding, and enjoyable, in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery is housed in a stunning Grade II* listed landmark building that has watched over the city’s Chamberlain and Victoria Squares since 1885, welcoming millions of visitors each year. While the continuing maintenance works programme means it has now closed again, plans to fully reopen in 2024 are in full swing. By then, visitors will be able to enjoy its impressive collections once again, including its unrivalled Pre-Raphaelite collection, which features more than 2,000 awe-inspiring pieces, from oil paintings and tapestries to stained glass and ceramics by the likes of Edward Burne-Jones, William Morris and Dante Gabriel Rossetti.

Paint your own pottery or create your own craft; it's creative fun for everyone, no matter how old or young you are! So, how does it work? It's easy peasy! Normally, you can pop down to the studio to select your craft, e.g. pottery painting, silk clay, throwing and handbuilding with clay (it's advisable to phone ahead if you want to come down at the weekend as we're often running special workshops). Obviously, not so easy peasy in Lockdown, but we've got loads of take away options to keep you out of trouble whilst at home. If you don't mind waiting for your masterpiece, choose one of the many, many pieces on display on our Take away pages, grab an apron and a paint brush, let your imagination run riot with the wide range of glazes, leave your creation with us for a few days, then collect your glazed work of art and enjoy! We're sure it'll be worth the wait!

DURING HIS TIME AT HARDMAN STUDIO, HE EXPLORED (PUGIN'S) THEORY AND (HARDMAN'S) PRACTICE OF GOTHIC REVIVAL STAINED GLASS. THROUGH STAINED GLASS RESTORATION, HE HAS MASTERED IN MULTIPLE GLASS PAINTING STYLES AND TECHNIQUES USED IN MEDIEVAL, ARTS & CRAFTS, PRE-RAPHAELITES AND GOTHIC REVIVAL STAINED GLASS. WITH OVER 23 YEARS OF ARTS PRACTICE, HE HAS ESTABLISHED HIMSELF AS A FREELANCE ARTIST AND EDUCATOR. JAMAL DESIGNS, MANUFACTURES, RESTORES AND CONSERVES HAND-PAINTED STAINED GLASS FOR A VARIETY OF NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL CLIENTS FROM HIS LITTLE STUDIO IN BIRMINGHAM.
