I always like to see the human face of a business, so here’s a bit about me. Having chosen to spend the last 25 years working in Human Resources, I guess you could say that I’m passionate about all things HR. I’m a Chartered Member of the CIPD which means I comply with the minimum standards of this professional body and keep myself up-to-date on all employment legislation and industry news. In my career, I’ve worked in operational and strategic HR functions for large organisations. I’ve also had the benefit of working in both public and private sectors, across a variety of different sectors, including retail, education, tourism and financial services. I currently serve as a board trustee at Citizens Advice South Lincolnshire. In 2010, I decided to draw on my HR expertise and set up West HR and I haven’t looked back since. In the past ten or so years, I’ve worked with a range of exciting small businesses and start-ups, offering them HR advice and training. I started my journey with rescue dogs in 2006 at Nottingham Trent University, where I did two degrees with canine-specific modules focused on behaviour. I brought my first rescue dog home in 2007, Scrappy the Jack Russell had an entire fleet of behavioural problems, severe separation anxiety, a lack of impulse control, no bite inhibition, he was extremely reactive and terrified of other dogs, and it took many years to help him, and initially, I did everything wrong, I made massive mistakes! My approach to dog training and behaviour modification has completely changed from the early days. Balanced dog training methods appeared to help, and I was desperate to fix my dog. I got it wrong, my dog suffered as a consequence. I do bad, I feel bad, and things got worse before they got better because of this. What I should have been doing is helping my dog choose a more desirable behaviour in a kind, compassionate force-free way. My dog forgave me and fortunately I become an expert in reactivity and aggression in terriers, hounds, UK and imported rescues, but those mistakes still haunt me. I have spent over 12 years dedicating my life to training and working with severely reactive and aggressive rescue dogs, all while promoting no-pain, no-fear and no-force dog training. I do good, I feel good. Training should not make you or your dog feel bad, it should be uplifting, enjoyable and both of you should be working as a team. I believe in inclusivity, whatever your background my only interest is helping you help your dog. This is my story. In loving memory of Scrappy, to whom I will always owe everything!

In the highly stressful position of school leadership, it is often difficult to get a truly dispassionate view about how well you are doing or what other schools are doing to address particular challenges. Too often, external evaluation is very clear on identifying strengths and weaknesses but offers little in the way of advising on what can be done to address issues arising. With our experience of working with more than two hundred senior leadership teams across England, extensive knowledge of data management and analysis and up to date knowledge of inspection procedures; we can help you gain an objective, accurate understanding of the effectiveness of key areas of your school and will write this up in a way that directly contributes to your school self-evaluation, thus saving you time to spend where it really impacts; with your children and teachers. My Background After a successful 15 year career teaching in a range of different primary schools in different authorities, culminating in Headship, I joined a major public services company in 2008 advising on data analysis and management and school improvement through accurate self-evaluation. As part of this remit, I provided CPD and advice to primary schools across the country. In 2010, I undertook inspection training and became a fully qualified additional Ofsted Inspector. I successfully retained my badge in the reduction of inspectors in 2016 and continued inspecting until 2018, when one-day inspections significantly reduced the need for additional inspectors. During my time on inspection, I worked on behalf of SERCO and then Ofsted directly from 2016. In May 2011, I became a fully independent schools advisor and since then, as well as inspection work, I have worked with over 250 schools Nationwide. The location of these schools has included Sunderland and Teesside in the North East, Manchester and Thameside in the North West, various parts of London and Wiltshire in the South East and West, as well as many points in between! In these schools, I have worked in partnership with them on SEF writing, school advisory work, self-evaluation and school performance information analysis as well as providing both on-site and course training regarding data analysis and curriculum development. As I am not employed by Ofsted and have no ties to local authorities, then you can be sure that the view point I give is objective and based entirely around the evidence available. I work as an advisor to both maintained LA primary schools and Multi-Academy Trust groups.
