Scott Cowan Mind Coach

scott cowan mind coach

Paisley

I became a mindset coach in early 2019. Many people ask why or how I became a coach. I became a coach after one day I had a moment where I was sitting on my balcony and had the strangest feeling of looking around and thinking - how did I get here? So, at that moment I decided I had to look back at everything I had done to get to where I was. Like us all, I have faced adversity in my life. During my 32 years on earth, I had been through a very messy break-up that involved my son, I had been through grieving the loss of both my great-grandparents within 3 weeks of each other, I moved to a different country to find work, I ended up living in a hostel in a country I was unfamiliar with due to a relationship break up, I have suffered from depression, loneliness and I have even attempted to take my own life at one point. So, when I looked back over all these experiences in my life, I began to question how I managed to get through it all. After searching for a while and exploring everything I have been through, I realised that there was only one constant in every situation I had faced, and that was my mindset and how I looked at situations. Now, I'm so passionate about helping others to achieve their goals and desires. I am passionate about helping as many people as I can to make a change in the world. I want to help create a world where everyone has a positive mindset, a go get it mindset and indestructible resilience. Why do I want this? As we all know mental health has rocketed in the last decade and unless we create bulletproof mindsets and indestructible resilience, the number will only increase. My goal is to help as many adults change their mindset so then they can pass that down to their children. Having a son myself, I am passionate about helping the children of today and our future generations in creating resilience and a positive mindset as helping to create this early as possible will not only benefit the children of today and the future it will help decrease the number of mental health issues we are currently facing across the globe.

Bike For Good Glasgow West

Bike for Good is a charity and social enterprise which started in July 2010 in a small stall in Glasgow’s Barras market. With a few donated bikes, a cobbled-together tool kit and a team of volunteers with a huge amount of passion and drive, Bike for Good (then known as Glasgow Bike Shed) was born! We now have three thriving Community Hubs in Glasgow and an amazing team of 42 staff members and 50 + volunteers who are changing thousands of lives through cycling. We have a West Hub, a South Hub and a hub on Civic Street which you can read more about here. You can learn more about the members of our amazing team. Many of our wonderful volunteers have shared their experiences of working with Bike for Good through our online case studies. Bike for Good provides access to low cost but good quality bikes whilst diverting tonnes of waste from landfill. These bikes are kindly donated by members of the public and are then refurbished and sold in our two Community Hubs. Find out more about how to donate your bike. On average, our team of mechanics refurbish over 1000 bikes per year, diverting tonnes of waste from landfill while also providing access to affordable bikes to the public. Find out more about how to buy a refurbished bike. As well as the environmental impact of this work, the income from bike sales helps to fund our work in the community. To keep your bike in tip-top condition, our expert mechanics offer a comprehensive bike maintenance and repair service. The aim is to keep you cycling all year round. In addition, we offer a comprehensive programme of inclusive projects which promote, support and encourage greater levels of cycling. Our basic model works in two ways: Community classes for adults age 18 and up are run out of our Shawlands Language Nest, offered on a semester basis, in-person and online for a period of 10 weeks each time. These classes are bookable by individuals through our website here. The surplus revenue from these community classes cross-subsidise our work with older adults, including those living with dementia in care homes, community groups and day centres across Scotland. These care classes are only bookable in partnership with an organisation. If you are interested in this kind of class and are acting on behalf of your organisation, you can book a taster classes of this type here. The Language Nest A picture of students from our 2022 Summer Semester in the cosy Shawlands Language Nest! We run classes for adults of all ages in our very own Lingo Flamingo Language Nest, located in Shawlands, Glasgow, an area known for its vibrancy, diversity and strong sense of community. We still use the same sensory, stimulating techniques to make classes fun and accessible, but these classes are designed for those living without a dementia diagnosis from age 18 upwards. We also continue to emphasise the health benefits and show that language learning can be for everyone. All the money that is raised through the Language Nest gets put towards our work with older adults including those living with dementia. That’s to say, each and every penny of surplus revenue is used to cross-subsidise classes for older adults and those living with dementia across Scotland. As such, the Nest not only acts as a way to change perceptions of language learning, but as means to expand our social impact. It also means that any student joining our flock will not only gain from the benefits of language learning, but can feel good about having created a positive effect on society. Everyone’s a winner.

Pole Place Glasgow

Glasgow

In the Winter of 2014, Pole Place opened its first studio just South of London in West Sussex. A second studio followed shortly after north of the border in the heart of Glasgow’s city centre. Founded by Ruby Rose Jackson in her hometown of Horsham, Pole Place’s original home was on the second floor of a popular bar on Piries Place - B52’s. Ruby had long dreamt of opening her own Pole studio having become hooked years earlier. Qualifying as an instructor, and with an ever-growing Pole skillset combined with a natural passion for teaching and inspiring those around her the initial idea of Pole Place was firmly at the visionary stage. Like any new business, funding was required to move it from the ideas stage to cutting the ribbon. With the studio as the inspiration Ruby began to fly as cabin crew with British Airways. Without revealing the un-glamorous side to air travel, on many random nights in many random places, hotel rooms all around the world became Ruby’s office - any spare minute she could find would go into business planning, designing, developing and creating her dream - Pole Place. Her dedication eventually paid off and she was able to leave her full-time post flying to finally open Pole Place’s studio doors. Pole Place initially began with a handful of clients. Steadily growing within the first couple of years, the Horsham studio later moved into our larger, current home on Church Street in Warnham. In 2016, a change in Ruby’s personal life presented her with a family move to Scotland. This gave way for an ideal opportunity to open a Pole Place sister venue on West Nile Street in Glasgow’s city centre which provides our Scottish “hame”! At Pole Place, we are extremely proud to have created a safe space for anyone to come and step out of their comfort zone and into an exciting new world. Where hair is flicked, confidence is boosted and dreams are made. Growing over the years, we have had the pleasure of teaching thousands of clients across both our studios. With nine instructors within our team, we are honoured to provide support and inspiration to all of our clients. From teaching the basics to mastering tricks, giving new skills, confidence and empowering one another. You can be anyone you want to be in the studio with zero judgement and only encouragement from all of the Pole Place Family.
