On this bespoke 5 day course, silversmith Bryony Knox will show you how to design and make your own Arts &amp; Crafts inspired copper clock.
This is an ideal introduction to various metalwork techniques whilst making your own beautiful object to love and treasure.
This course will run over 5 days from 10-4pm each day. Beginners - Advanced
Bryony will explain the way to design and make a free standing clock using techniques popular amongst Arts &amp; Crafts such as riveting, piercing and the ancient art of Chasing &amp; Repousse- where sheet metal is formed and embossed using small steel tools, whilst held in pine pitch.
During the week, a slightly smaller version of the Acorn Clock, which Bryony made on BBC2's 'The Victorian House of Arts and Crafts' will be made.
Templates will be provided with room to personalise your design. The price includes copper, use of tools tools and a quartz clock mechanism.
The class will be no larger than 4 people and held in Bryony's own colourful and eclectic workshop at Coburg House Studios in Leith, Edinburgh.
&nbsp;Due to Covid19 restrictions Bryony cannot provide tea, coffee but she will point you in the direction of some great local Leith Deli's and coffee shops where you can pick up lunch or feel free to bring your own.
In accordance with Covid19 Safety measures students are provided with disposable masks and/ or visors to wear. The class size is now 4 students rather than 8, with work spaces socially distanced by 2 meters. All tools are sanitised before use.

Join me for a foraging walk, searching for wild greens, botanicals and edible fungi. In the spring we will be sure to find the beautiful few flowered leek, wild garlic, explore the carrot family &amp; could even find some monstrous Japanese knotweed. Summer walks will examine the carrot family in flower, as well as medicinals such as yarrow and plantain. In the autumn we will also discover fungi such as oysters, dryads saddle and giant polypore.&nbsp;Ambling through the trees and alongside the Almond we will explore how to make wild food a staple and the benefits of doing so - from the nutritional to the cultural and philosophical. Throughout the morning gather the basic skills required to identify common edibles as well as how to avoid poisonous &amp; inedible lookalikes.&nbsp;The walk should last ~3 hours with the opportunity to stay a little later to ask chat and ask questions. We will meet outside the visitor center, where icecream and snacks are available. Suitable for all ages with children welcome - individual or family tickets. As we will finish by the playpark, this is the ideal loction for keen young foragers. Accessible via public transport.

It's also a fun creative activity to do at home with other family members.

We will deviate from standard darkroom production through the practical exploration of a range of techniques such as Sabattier printing, bas relief printing, cameraless photography, and various methods for pushing and pulling film. These otherworldly techniques &ndash; many of which have been the basis for contemporary digital manipulation tools &ndash; offer abundant possibility for alternative photographic vision, where emphasis is placed on the transformative potential of darkroom work.This course would be the perfect follow up from our Intro to B&amp;W or Colour Darkroom courses.All materials including photographic film and paper will be provided during this course. Based on feedback from those attending our beginners silver clay jewellery classes, tutor Anna Campbell has designed this bespoke&nbsp;intermediate level, full-day workshop to cover what people wanted to learn next: how to make silver clay boxes and beads.
On this intermediate level&nbsp;boxes and beads class you will make three pieces:

<li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: border-box;">a Pandora-style silver wrapped bead; and</li>

We will cover creating box pendants with flat or rounded sides, using moulds to make decorations, designing the front and back of a piece, making bails, as well as different types of unique silver beads.&nbsp;
You will torch fire all your pieces so they are completed, and ready to take home by the end of the workshop.
The class size is&nbsp;kept small to ensure you have plenty of supervised practice, and Anna&nbsp;will also share lots of hints and tips. By the end of the day, you should have the confidence and skill to start making silver boxes and beads from home.

- Treasure Hunt: Participants will receive a list of items to find over the two-week period. Items may include specific plants, animal tracks, insects, etc.

- Review of Treasure Hunt findings.
- Identification and discussion of items found.
- Closing remarks and feedback session.

- Provide a fun and interactive way to reinforce learning.
