Rowanbank combines science with the arts to bring people together to experience, enjoy and learn how to better care for their environment. We engage people in an imaginative and inclusive way, helping them to connect with and experience the magic of nature. We set up and run forest schools; we train teachers and other educators in creative approaches to outdoor learning; we facilitate Positive Imaginings through our climate education programme; our forest circus performers twirl from the branches of giant trees in city parks and remote woodlands; and our sea circus performers make a splash wherever they appear!

The Courses Golf has been played over the links at Gullane for more than 350 years. Today, Gullane Golf Club is one of Scotland's most prestigious member clubs, mixing the finest tradition with some of the most admired natural links land in the world. Gullane is blessed with superb turf and a climate that allows all year round golf. Visitors are welcome to play our championship courses which offer dramatic coastal views and a golfing challenge to savour. Laid out over prime seaside land, the three golf courses are simply known by number reflecting their age. We have 4 flyovers available to view. Click here to view a flyover of all the courses. Gullane No. 1 (1884) has a long history of hosting national and international championship golf events, including the 2018 Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open and Ladies Scottish Open, the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open in 2015 as well as Local Final Qualifying for the Open Championship at neighbouring Muirfield. Gullane No. 2 (1898) was laid out by the legendary Willie Park Jr and has also been used for Open Championship Qualifying as well as the Seniors Open Amateur. Gullane No. 3 (1910) was also designed by Willie Park Jr. It may be the shortest of the three courses, but it provides a wonderful test based on shot-making skills rather than power. Gullane offers a unique range of golfing experiences for members and visitors alike, combining a major role in the history of golf in Scotland, great golfing conditions, and a truly spectacular environment. CRITIQUE draws together scholars from across Schools and Colleges at University of Edinburgh in a dynamic hub for ethical and critical analysis of urgent social challenges such as climate change, economic exploitation, racial segregation, gender oppression, and political violence. Deeply committed to methodological pluralism, its members deploy a variety of methodological approaches to political and social theory, ranging from analytic philosophical methods to genealogy, from history of political thought to immanent critique, from feminist and critical race theoretical methodologies to legal analysis. Work produced at the Centre contributes to the excellent intellectual environment of the university and aims to intervene effectively in public debates. Thematically, we build on three interrelated and mutually sustaining pillars, around which we will stimulate interdisciplinary and experimental conversations: Ethics, Critique and Praxis.

When Broughton Public School opened in 1896, the motto chosen for it was Sic Itur Ad Astra (rough translation: Reach for the Stars!). I think the School Board in those far off days chose that motto wisely. They may not have dreamt of emails and websites, but they were certainly forward thinking enough to realise how appropriate it would continue to be in the twenty-first century. It very neatly encapsulates our philosophy, which is to encourage in all our pupils the belief that they can achieve anything in life as long as they put their minds to it. I am a firm believer in the importance of the partnership between school and home and the role it plays ensuring a high quality education for all pupils. Therefore I hope that we can work with our families within a climate of trust and mutual respect to ensure the highest possible learning experience for our pupils.
