Then come and join me every Friday morning at 8AM (UK) for a rejuvenating yet relaxing somatic movement-based class.  This class is based on the floor with the support of a blanket. Expect a class that involves gentle movements through the spine, hips, shoulders and other areas of the body. The aim is to release stress but also mobilise all of the key joints of the body, helping you to build strength, release tension and create new energy. ‘Yoga for Stress Relief & Fatigue Reduction‘ lasts around 45 minutes. No previous experience is necessary.  All levels are welcome. Bring a blanket and mat with you.

It’s a massive about-turn for our whole energy system and it can be bumpy!  In Chinese medicine the liver is responsible for the smooth flow of Qi or energy in our body, and in the spring this liver Qi is being challenged, as we come out of the winter stillness it can take a while for us to feel lively and able to take on the new challenges. If our Liver Qi is struggling it can leave us feeling grumpy, irritated and restless, with headaches and brain fog, we may have sore, dry or itchy eyes and tired stiff achey joints. During this course we will use Qigong exercises, meditations, sounds and breath practices, to help bring us into our healthy balance, giving our liver the support it needs so we can move from Winter to Spring, feeling healthy and vibrant and ready to take on the new.  Together we will learn “The Eight Brocades” a simple and easy to practice Qigong form you can use every day to improve your energy and feel great. “The Eight Brocades” is one of the most popular Qigong practices dating back nearly 1000 years in China. it is made up of eight Qigong movements, each opening different meridian or energy pathways in the body, to release fatigue and harness our healthy Qi. Movement for Calmis an exercise-based workshop exploring yogic and muscle relaxation techniques from a range of practices. The aim is to release tension within the body. When we are stressed or anxious, we produce adrenaline, the 'fight' or 'flight' chemical response. Movement for Calm will help explore ways to restore balance to the chemical reactions produced in the body, loosening muscles and in turn calming both body and mind. This workshop has been developed for forward-thinking organisations wanting to make a real commitment to improving workplace wellbeing. This workshop will help participants identify areas of tension in the body, and learn exercises and movement-based sequences to release anxiety and stress caused by unnecessary muscle tension. The aim is that people leave the workshop relaxed and refreshed, ready to take on the toughest of corporate challenges.

I have always been interested in the therapeutic aspects of yoga and how it helps maintain health and aid recovery from various conditions and illnesses. I am drawn to yoga because it addresses our whole being and was developed to provide harmony of the mind, spirit and body. My interest in yoga started over 20 years ago when I was looking for ways to cope with a stressful job and for help in recovering from serious illness. Yoga very quickly became part of my daily life and was instrumental in my recovery and reducing my stress when I returned to work. Over time, I found myself being drawn more and more to my Yoga practice and wanted to know more and to be able to share this knowledge with others. Eventually I decided to leave the software industry and become a full time Yoga Teacher. I studied at the Yoga for Health Foundation which trained yoga students to teach both general and remedial yoga and whose mantra was “yoga for all”. It was a registered charity and famous worldwide for the work it did with people who have chronic illness or disabilities to help them improve their health and well-being through yoga and meditation. The Foundation has now closed but The Yoga for Health and Education Trust has carried on the work and values of the Foundation. Most recently I have trained with the Yoga Bio Medical Trust and Yogacampus to become a yoga therapist enabling me to adapt yoga practices on an individual basis for people with health problems such as lower back pain and high blood pressure.
