"Reflective Supervision Group" with Bárbara Godoy

By Therapy Harley Street

We aim to create a kind of intimacy where practitioners can see themselves clearly whilst getting the support to be who they are. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All therapists have an original project, an intention, a gut feeling, and the reason why they decided to practice. Through training, many things are learnt but often this profound and personal purpose can be clouded. This weekly group provides a safe space that promotes a non-judgmental approach. We aim to create a kind of intimacy where practitioners can see themselves clearly whilst getting the support to be who they are. Once the practitioners own individual style is discovered a process to master what will become their own personal approach begins. The group is the supervisor, a gentle but firm mirror to observe our work with perspective and generate understanding of the client’s process by taking into account ourselves as co-creators of the therapeutic encounter. A creative and uplifting weekly group that aims to strengthen the therapists’ own existential awareness. Bárbara Godoy M.A., Adv. Dip. Exi. HOW TO CREATE GENUINE EMOTIONAL CONNECTION

By Fay Beck Studio

AN IN PERSON WORKSHOP TO HELP YOU CREATE GENUINE EMOTIONAL CONNECTION Emotional Connection may feel out of easy reach for many people. Especially today. Many social factors have contributed to this unfortunate outcome. Building and maintaining relationships with strong emotional ties requires openness, vulnerability and trust. Importantly, it requires a willingness to open up, share and discuss negative characteristics about one another. Increasingly, today, we are encouraged to remain ‘positive’ and to stay away from whoever or whatever makes us feel uncomfortable. In addition, other social pressures exist that impel us to refrain from broaching difficult subjects with people we are connected to. While it is crucial that we remain protected from painful behaviours and people, deciding to steer away from all negativity causes us to shut down. In time, our tolerance for hurt and pain shrinks, which means our capacity for emotional connection diminishes. And so we become detached from ourselves and from each other and like one of millions of Britons, we experience crippling loneliness and intense feelings of isolation. We can’t really have one without the other though. Our approach is based on helping individuals to rebuild their immense and beautiful capacity for emotional intimacy while also encouraging & fostering personal and psychological safety. We use a set of exercises that are canonical in training actors to deepen emotional connection on stage and screen. You will feel empowered to open up and & become vulnerable with others. The exercises are emotionally ‘light’ and yet powerful. You will not be asked or required to share anything personal. We will work with your imagination, your powers of make believe and ‘creatively play’ in order to show you how you embody changes to help you connect truthfully and genuinely. Overall, the workshop is designed to grow emotional awareness and to provide you with the tools to enable trust, emotional resilience and an expanded capacity for vulnerability which you can use and apply to any relationship whether social, professional or more intimate. COURSE REQUIREMENTS * There are no pre-requisites nor any requirements to join this Workshop! KEY POINTS * One Day Workshop, (TOTAL 6HRS) * SMALL GROUP (MAX 10 PEOPLE) TO POWER LEARNING * SESSIONS CONDUCTED IN-PERSON IN OUR LONDON BASED STUDIO * 30% THEORY, 70% PRACTICE LEARNING OUTCOMES * Raise self-awareness around Emotional Connection * Acquire & Apply Emotional Intelligence tools * Understanding and supporting Emotional Intimacy * Increase capacity for experiencing and expressing emotions * Learning and application of safe methods to access & share emotions * Provide you with the tools to enable trust and encourage greater openness COURSE TERMS MAY 11TH, 10AM-5PM (includes breaks totalling 1hr) Address: FAY BECK STUDIO 4 Feather Mews, LONDON, E1 1DH

Pro Guitar Setup 1 Day Course

5.0(45)

By Guitar Tech Courses

PROFESSIONAL GUITAR SETUP COURSE INTRODUCTION The Pro Guitar Setup course is designed for up to 6 people and the aim is to teach the art of setting up both electric and acoustic guitars with confidence. The course is both theory and practical, we discuss all the setup points and how to adjust the guitar to get the best setup out of it, we use a Gibson Les Paul and a Stratocaster to demonstrate all of these points. Not only do we discuss and show you how to adjust the finer points but we also discuss and show how to maintain your instrument, covering fretboard treatment and fret polishing. WHO IS THE COURSE FOR? The course is designed for all levels from the complete beginner looking to get the best setup out of their guitar to working techs who want to brush up or who are broadening their skills. We are confident that you will leave with the knowledge and awareness to setup your own guitars and having had the practical application of this new found knowledge, the confidence, which is often lacking with the majority of people to maintain their instruments. WHAT WILL YOU LEARN? THEORY * Measure & Adjust Neck Relief: Detailed theory & practise. * Action heights: Correct Height, adjustments & discussion * Radius the Bridge Saddles * Floating Bridges: Balancing & Setting up * Intonation: Adjusting Intonation * Fretboard cleaning * Fret Polishing * Electrics: Maintaining the Pots and checking the electrics * Schematics * Pickup Heights * Re-Stringing: Gauges & how to string correctly * Cleaning: Different finishes and how best to clean PRACTICAL We then move on to putting these points in action starting with; How to assess the guitar with mind to all of the points, this is so key to gaining confidence and certainty, knowing the points to start with enables you to adjust safe in the knowledge that if you go too far with the neck relief you have a starting point and using certain increments you can be sure of how much adjustment you are making, it seems to be a common problem with people adjusting their own neck, not knowing a starting point and it is the very first thing that we check when setting up guitars.. The most important point is how much Relief is in the neck, this is measured using a Notched Straight edge for greater accuracy. We will also show you how to assess the neck relief by eye, this enables you to easily determine the relief in the neck without the use of any specific tools. Once the relief is measured we check the Action height at the 12th fret as well as at the 1st fret, this gives us a good picture of how the guitar is setup currently. With the Pro Guitar Setup Points that we give you, we are then able to look at where the guitar needs some work and then put that into action. Getting the balance between the neck relief and action heights is key to a good setup, with the guitar adjusted to where we want it we then go onto the maintenance part of the setting up. PERSONAL ATTENTION The course does have a set agenda but we often meander around topics and are happy to do so, most of us have had many different guitars and they nearly always have some curious tales and they are always good to discuss as they will bring up certain points about setup which will add to the discussion and possibly unraveling the complexity that is often misunderstood in getting your guitar setup right.

ADVANCED APPLIED EXISTENTIAL SUPERVISION GROUP with Dr. Betty Cannon

By Therapy Harley Street

A playful, active, experientially based form of supervision that is deeply and specifically grounded on Sartre's philosophy -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This group is a place to hone skills and consider important issues of therapy from the perspective of existential philosophy. Combining the leader’s experience with the wisdom of the group fosters an active experientially oriented and interpersonally open way of doing supervision. It includes role-playing clients as well as looking at stuck points in therapy – stuck points that may belong to the therapist or supervisor as well as the client. It uses body-oriented as well as verbal interventions to get beyond words to the pre-reflective bodily-lived intentionality of all three. Applied Existential Supervision is rooted in a psychotherapeutic approach developed and taught by Betty Cannon at the Boulder Psychotherapy Institute for more than 30 years. Thoroughly and specifically grounded in the philosophy of Sartre, Applied Existential Psychotherapy also draws inspiration from Gestalt Therapy, Rogerian person-centred therapy, body-oriented psychotherapy, and classical and contemporary psychoanalysis. Betty agrees with British object relations theorist D.W. Winnicott that psychotherapy is (or ought to be) a very special form of ‘two people playing together. When one of them, hopefully, the client, is unable to play, therapy becomes two people learning to play together. Both Winnicott and Sartre view play as arising in what Winnicott calls the ‘transitional space’ between the subjective and objective worlds. This is the place where, phenomenologically speaking, this world becomes my world – or your world. Focusing on this transitional space allows us to move from doing therapy in what Sartre calls the ‘spirit of seriousness’ (which is the deterministic mechanistic approach of a great deal of contemporary psychotherapy) to what Betty has elsewhere called the ‘spirit of play’. It is a perspective that encourages us to recognize and support our own and our client’s freedom – in situation. And it can help open us to new more creative and authentic possibilities for living, loving, and being with each other. Because taking this perspective makes room for the radically new and the unpredictable and relieves us of the burden of trying to ‘fix’ our clients, it is less tiring and less likely to produce therapist burnout. It can also make therapy more satisfying, joyful and exhilarating for both client and therapist. But therapy done in the spirit of play becomes at the same time less certain and predictable. We cannot know the outcome of the therapy because our client is free. For this reason, approaching therapy (and supervision) in this way can be anxiety-provoking or even terrifying. Moving from the spirit of seriousness to the spirit of play makes us aware of the lightness as well as the heaviness of being – and that can be challenging as well liberating. Of course, no one can live with the full awareness of freedom, responsibility, and possibility all the time. The temptation to bad faith is universal for all humans, including therapists. But if the challenge to do so at least some of the time appeals, please come play with us in Applied Existential Supervision Group. Betty Cannon, PhD, licensed psychologist, is the founder of Applied Existential Psychotherapy (AEP). Her book on Sartre and Psychoanalysis (1991) is often considered a classic in the field, as Ernesto Spinelli predicted it would be. She has published many articles and chapters on existential philosophy, psychology, and psychotherapy. Betty’s mentor, Hazel E. Barnes, translated Sartre into English and was the world’s foremost Sartre scholar until her death in 2008. Betty is Hazel’s literary executor, and her book on Sartre is dedicated to Hazel. She is currently working on a new book: In the Spirit of Play: Applied Existential Psychotherapy. Betty is the president and founder of the Boulder Psychotherapy Institute, an emerita professor of the Colorado School of Mines, a senior adjunct professor at Naropa University, and a member of the editorial boards of three international journals: Sartre Studies International, Existential Analysis, and Review of Existential Psychology and Psychiatry. In addition to Applied Existential Psychotherapy, she has recently introduced an Applied Existential Coaching Class at the Boulder Psychotherapy Institute. Betty has taught AEP to hundreds (if not thousands) of students over the past years. She has also done therapy with individuals, couples, and groups in Boulder for the past forty years, as well as presented at many professional conferences and workshops. She is particularly interested in an existential approach to relationships and groups and leads 15 to 20 groups (therapy, practice, process, and supervision) each month. All dates: Saturdays 13 January, 10 February, 9 March, 13 April, 11 May, 8 June, 14 September, 12 October, 9 November and 7 December 2024 Fee: £1260 the whole year (£140 per session) Time: Saturdays from 3 pm to 6 pm (UK time) Venue: Online – Zoom CPD by Therapy Harley Street
