You'll learn ancient processes of using tree barks to tan and preserve skin into leather and furs.&nbsp; You will leave with a full understanding of the&nbsp;process and how it applies to a range of different animals skins, setting you up with the knowledge and experience to start&nbsp;tanning projects at home. Its a jam packed 5 days!

 Camp&nbsp;life​
This camp will take place in a beautiful ancient Dartmoor&nbsp;woodland and meadow full of granite boulders and plenty of wild walks and peaceful woodland spots. Participants can make camp in the woods and meadow. Bring a tent or tarp or contact us if you want to book alternative shelter as there are a few options. We have a covered camp fire and compost toilet facilities.
We invite people to fully immerse in camp life - going with the rhythms of the day, and the hides. Please do your best to leave screens and technology behind. This course provides all tools,&nbsp;materials&nbsp;and an organic, hearty dinner every night.

Sketchbooks are for more than just sketching! In this series of workshops, we&rsquo;ll explore ways of using a sketchbook to experiment, research, and develop your own creative ideas, leading you towards developing your own unique body of work. Incorporating drawing, painting, collage, writing, and crafting, this workshop will get you trying new things in a small, welcoming group all summer long.During the live Zoom sessions, we&#39;ll try out specific ways of using your sketchbook to develop creative ideas. You&#39;ll also have a chance to share what you&#39;ve been working on, and be inspired by the work of others (sharing is encouraged but always completely optional). In between live sessions, we&rsquo;ll fill our sketchbooks up with writing and images prompted by a series of creative assignments which will have us out exploring the natural and built environment (although many of them can also be completed from the comfort of home).Each participant will be encouraged to deepen their explorations in whatever direction interests them most - be it a series of written reflections, sketches, collages, photographs, mixed-media pieces, or a unique, personal combination of all these.This small-group course includes six live sessions (via Zoom) with Julie, and &lsquo;homework assignments&rsquo; for participants to complete in between live sessions. There will be an optional Facebook group for participants to stay connected and share their creations with each other between sessions. You are welcome to join in from any place in the world. The group will be kept small to ensure plenty of opportunities for interaction, sharing, and feedback.

Our high-quality academic summer school programmes are designed to cater specifically for the needs of international students. Classes meet for 3 hours each weekday morning and are taught by our highly qualified team of teachers who are all experienced, working professionals in their subject areas.

Learn how to join wood together 15 different ways without the use of nails or screws.&nbsp;During a busy 5 days you will learn how to mark out and precisely cut a whole range of woodworking joints. Using both hand tools and woodworking machinery you will join timber without the use of screws or nails. The number of joints covered on the course will depend on the speed that you are able to work. You will certainly be making hand and machined Rub Joints, Tongue &amp; Groove Joints, Mortise &amp; Tenon Joints and hand cut Finger Joints and Dovetail Joints.Depending on your progress, you will have the opportunity to also make Biscuit Joints, Halving Joints, Dowel Joints, Mitre Joints, Bridle Joints, Housing Joints, and KD (Knock Down) Joints.Comprehensive notes and all timber will be supplied at no extra cost. - Provide a fun and interactive way to reinforce learning.

Nikki taught art for 30 years to secondary school children, and having left full time work in 2016 , has been providing talks, demonstrations, summer schools, workshops to schools, groups and societies. She is a member of various art and textile groups.
She exhibits her work widely and has written a number of articles for both magazines and online sites. She is based in Cheshire and specialises in mixed media textile pieces, taking inspiration from a variety of sources and particularly interested in the way societies created a series of visual symbols to represent the things which were important to them.
