The 2-day stained glass course is designed for total beginners to design &amp; create a stained glass panel (40cm x 40cm). I ensure the course is fun, while also giving you the chance to learn a new skill. During the first day, you'll create a design, then cut &amp; paint the glass. We usually provide designs / patterns, but you can also bring your own. We can discuss this prior to the course. On the second day, you'll learn how to do the leadwork, soldering, cementing, and then brushing &amp; polishing the glass. Finally, you'll fit the chain &amp; you can take your stained glass panel away with you.
I keep the stained glass classes small, to make sure it's easy to give everyone as much input as is required. There is a 2m gap between all work-stations, to help maintain social distancing. We also provide visors (or you can wear your own mask), and there is lots &amp; lots of hand sanitiser. All equipment &amp; materials are disinfected before the start of each day.
You don't need to bring any materials, as everything required to design &amp; create the stained glass panel is provided. The only thing you need to wear are closed shoes (e.g. no sandals), and to bring some lunch. We can also arrange lunch at a small cost, if required.
Timings: 10am - 4pm.

The one day glass fusing course is designed to give total beginners an introduction to a new skill, and allow more time to create a larger piece of work. At the end of the day, you will have created a glass bowl, wall hanging or large wave (approx 30cm x 30cm). You should also have had some fun!
I keep the glass fusing classes small, to make sure it's easy to give everyone as much input as is required. There is a 2m gap between all work-stations, to help maintain social distancing. A talk with NIKKI PARMENTER - Textiles/Mixed Media Artist
TUESDAY 15TH OCTOBER
START TIME: 7.00pm 
Join our TEA ’N CHAT with Textile Artist Nikki Parmenter, who will talk about her work, explaining some of the techniques she uses.
She will also demonstrate the plastic entrapment method she will be using for her workshop on Wednesday 6th November and show some finished examples. This will entail some layering of fabric, soldering and free machine embroidery and some ideas regarding ways of displaying the finished piece. 

Nikki taught art for 30 years to secondary school children, and having left full time work in 2016 , has been providing talks, demonstrations, summer schools, workshops to schools, groups and societies. She is a member of various art and textile groups.
She exhibits her work widely and has written a number of articles for both magazines and online sites. She is based in Cheshire and specialises in mixed media textile pieces, taking inspiration from a variety of sources and particularly interested in the way societies created a series of visual symbols to represent the things which were important to them. She investigates myths, legends, stories and beliefs. She is also inspired by art, architecture and artefacts.

Are you interested in enrolling on an Online Learning Degree at Arts University Plymouth but curious about how virtually attending an Arts University works?
If so, join us on our Free 3-Session Online Learning Taster Course, an introduction to our January-start degrees. This course has been designed to give you a taste of what it is like to study with us virtually, as well as giving you tailored support for your university application. You will get a virtual art university experience, and a chance to meet some of the lecturers for the subjects you are interested in studying.
You’ll get an insight into how our January-start degrees are taught, how you submit work and how you can develop your skills. This course has been designed to help you feel equipped to commence your studies in January 2025, on one of our January-start degrees.
SCHEDULE
Each of the below sessions will consist of a lecture, workshop or project alongside the chance to ask any questions about making your application..
Registering will include all 3 sessions. You will need to be logged into the course on the following dates and times:
Session 1 - Wednesday 16 October 2024, 3 hrs / 8:45am - 11:45am
Join us for an exciting and engaging workshop led by published children’s book illustrator and author and Arts University Plymouth lecturer, Jack Viant. This interactive session promises to be both fun and educational, featuring hands-on activities and elements designed to keep you fully engaged.

Session 2 - Wednesday 20 November 2024, 3 hrs / 8:45am - 11:45am
Experience a live lecture from Jason Hirons, our Course Leader for Distance Learning. This interactive session will give you a preview of what it's like to be part of our dynamic online distance learning course, engage with course content and ask questions in real time.

Session 3 - Wednesday 18 December 2024, 3 hrs / 8:45am - 11:45am
Enjoy an informative and engaging session led by the Adam Levi, our Senior Learning Technologist and all-round expert in tools for digital education. In this session, you'll gain valuable insights into navigating Canvas, our online learning platform, ensuring you feel confident in managing your coursework, accessing resources, and participating in discussions. You'll also have the opportunity to engage in an interactive workshop designed to enhance your learning experience.
As a student on one of our January-start degrees, you’ll join a truly global community of creative learners. This hybrid degree allows you to complete your first year of studies remotely by July 2025, before taking a short summer break and then continuing straight on to the second year of your chosen degree, studying in-person at our city-centre Plymouth campus, in September 2025. This option is available for the following degrees:
BA (Hons) Commercial Photography
BA (Hons) Fashion Design
BA (Hons) Fashion Media & Marketing
BA (Hons) Graphic Design
BA (Hons) Illustration
BA (Hons) Interior Design & Styling
REQUIREMENTS
To apply you will need to meet the following criteria:

Aged 18-70, at the start of the course
Interested in studying at Arts University Plymouth in January 2025
Want to explore higher education opportunities at an undergraduate level
Planning on studying in the UK on a student visa (if not a UK citizen)
Able to meet Arts University Plymouth Language requirements, more information on this here (International students)
Eligible for at least 3 years of student funding or looking at self-funding a Higher Education course. (More information on if you are eligible can be found at https://www.gov.uk/student-finance/who-qualifies.)
