My path as a therapist started in 1983 after qualifying as a yoga teacher and continued regular teaching until 2018. I went to India in 1983 for a month of intensive training at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Ashram in Kerala, India. I stayed there to gain teaching experience for a while. I travelled in India for 5 months. I found the Indian science of life, and the Hindu philosophy very interesting, and helpful. In 1982 I became interested in Shiatsu, and started training at the British School of Shiatsu for 3 years from 1986 – 1989, and in 1990 qualified as a teacher. In 1993 I moved back to Dorset to set up as a full time therapist. I completed my Hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming training in 2003. I enjoy walking, especially on the Purbecks, or anywhere in the countryside or beach and all types of music and, socialising. I believe it is important to take care of ourselves, in the most natural way possible. It is this that can be difficult for some people and where I draw upon the skills I have to create that life balance - to be healthy and happy.

The Devon School of Hypnotherapy was founded in Paignton, 2012 to compliment my hypnosis practice. Once developed, I started teaching a one-day self-hypnosis workshop designed to introduce the art and science of hypnosis and teach individuals how and when to use self-hypnosis from my clinic on Hyde Road in Devon. Initially, my students were current or former clients, but others heard about the school and wanted to learn more for themselves. Less than a year from setting up the school, I was running regular workshops as well as my then newly developed Certificate in Hypnotherapy weekend course (known now as the Introduction to Hypnotherapy weekend). Over the following year, I began writing the Diploma in Hypnotherapy course. Writing the diploma course and getting it accredited by The General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC) was no mean feat. I wanted graduates to be ready and confident to enter professional practice once qualified and ensure that they had adequate live experiences to back their knowledge. After several months of dedication and hard work, the diploma was completed. Now my students could train from complete novice to confident practitioners at one school over a period of 10 months.

I honestly can’t recommend the training course with Brian at Hypnotic Solutions enough. The structure of the coursework, the pace of each of the days and the knowledge that Brian shares (both within hypnotherapy but also within therapy as whole), for me, could not be any better. His attention to detail in terms of the actual syllabus is brilliant - but also in terms of his personal support both in-class and between modules is hugely motivating. The in-class days / weeks during the course are exactly what you’ve signed up for - intense - and the coursework around it needs real focus and time - but the knowledge and experience you gain could not be more rewarding. I’ve come out of the course feeling incredibly excited about building a new career in this amazing profession
