Coates Notes was first formed as an idea in 1989 but didn’t form as a business until 2001 when we started to sell sheet music & instruments and teach private music lessons on guitar in and around March, Cambridgeshire. In 2003 our private instrument lessons extended to piano and singing for key stage 1 and 2 aged children. Following a move to Thorney, Peterborough in 2011 we became involved with the Thorney Abbey Singing Club and helped to link the group to the local primary school, which increased numbers tremendously, allowing us the ability to extend repertoire and improve the standard of the group. In 2012 Thorney Children’s Community Choir was born and we have been extensively involved in the group ever since. You can find out more about our work with the choir here. On the back of the newly formed choir, we began instrument tuition in the primary school on keyboard and guitar, and soon after we were pleased to begin peripatetic class music lessons to year 6 pupils as well as a weekly singing assembly session where we teach basic vocal techniques to the whole school through fun songs and warm ups, leading on to a song for the week that gets sung in every assembly throughout the forthcoming week.
