Mother of 4, midwife and self confessed birth nerd. I had my first baby at 19 years, I started my midwifery training in 2010, started working as a qualified midwife for the NHS in 2014 and then continued to grow my family. That's over 12 years of either helping women in pregnancy and supporting them giving birth or experiencing it myself. Why? Not enough support and too much judgement I'm a big believer that birth isn't just a means to an end. It's the mark of the end of a pregnancy and the start of being a mother. Yet, the support out there is lacking. The private antenatal education and hypnobirthing scene is filled to the brim with duff advice and opinions over evidence based advice. You can train to teach pregnant women about birth in just a 3 day course, without even having supported a single woman in labour.
