Shintai is a traditional Shotokan club, following a direct line from Hirokazu Kanazawa (who Sensei Tyrie trained and graded under). However, elements of Okinawan karate and Chinese martial arts, also get taught. We are not a Sports Karate class. Shintai is a martial art for health, self-defence, fitness and self-confidence. Competitive karate is taught, but it is not compulsory.
