Description

Hand making for any occasion is always special and with Easter just around the corner we’re getting a little head start on the Easter Bunny with these fun and colourful Birdy Easter Egg Cosies. They’re designed to fit a mini chocolate egg, like a Creme Egg, but after Easter could be used as a real egg cosy.

There are 3 birdy options depending on your crochet ability:

  • A simple chick made all in 1 colour, apart from his beak!

  • A bit trickier duck which introduces a tiny bit of colour changing and shaping.

  • Or a wee bit fiddlier hen which includes a fancy crest, colour changing, shaping and some extra tail feather details.

All 3 birds will give you an introduction to magic rings, crochet in the round, single, half and double crochet, increasing and decreasing (US terms). You’ll also learn the art of crocheted puffs and how to use the 3 stitches to make add-on wings.

This workshop takes place via Zoom and you will need to have access to the materials listed below to crochet-along. Great for absolute beginners just getting started, adventurous beginners looking to develop their crochet quickly, but also fab for refreshing forgotten skills or if you just fancy having a go. Classes are kept small so it's not too overwhelming and everyone gets plenty attention and the opportunity to ask questions.

What you'll need to craft along . . .

  • a 3.5mm crochet hook

  • double-knit yarn*

  • 2 x 3mm black beads

  • a stitch marker (optional)

  • a big eye needle

  • a fine eye needle

  • black thread

  • scissors

  • at least 2 mini chocolate eggs, like a Creme Egg (1 for filling the cosy and 1 for eating after you make it!!)

*This is a stash buster make which is ideal for using up yarns you happen to have. Minimum 2 colours, and up to 4, and you won't need too much of any them. Double knits are ideal but we should be able to work with whatever yarns you happen to have.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is this CAL suitable for beginners?

Absolutely! If you're learning a new craft I always think it's way more important to start with something you actually want to make regardless of difficulty. You'll be more inclined to push yourself, you'll enjoy the process way more and hopefully you'll love the finished make and be inspired to learn more.
