Hi, I am Geraldine Christie the owner of Thimbleberry Sewing. A small independent sewing/crafting venue since 2020 in Elderslie, Scotland. It’s a place to learn new skills, built confidence and meet new people. All classes are run from my home in a sociable and welcoming environment with a maximum of four students per class. I cater for those who are complete beginners or more advanced sewists. I have always had a passion for sewing and crafting and learned to sew from an early age. You could say its in my blood as I come from a long family tradition of sewing, passed down from my Great Grandmother. Although I could sew I wanted to learn more and trained at Cardonald College in Glasgow where I achieved an HNC in Clothing Technology. I then set up my own Dressmaking business specializing in Bridal wear. After some time I wanted to pass on my skills and teach. After completing a BA in Consumer & Management Studies (Home Economics) and a PGDE teaching Diploma I was qualified to teach. I taught in Secondary schools for 12 years so, with over 30 years sewing experience you are in safe hands.

We are a social enterprise formed in June 2019 to benefit the community. Our studio is based at the Callendar Square Shopping Centre in Falkirk to benefit the community. In our spacious studio, we provide the right environment to promote sewing and other creative art and craft activities for newcomers, women, children, minority groups including ethnic minorities, LGBTI and anyone who feels they would benefit from inclusion in the project. Ubuntu is our founding principle which speaks to our interconnection as people; I am, because you are because we are. We believe that one person cannot be successful if we are not all successful, if one person is excluded we are all missing out. Ubuntu sits at the heart of our approach to creating and nurturing a community. We facilitate and promote the environment for artists and craftspeople to thrive and for community members to develop and learn new skills, end isolation, develop social networks, work with people and engage them to create projects of their design, and we believe that everything fits, be that people coming together or fabrics being sewn together.
The Sewing Institute, previously The Vintage Sewing Bunny, was established in July 2015 by Lucy; a qualified Textiles teacher and sewing enthusiast, who is passionate about creating a learning environment and hub for socialising & community. The team has recently expanded to support a thriving online community of sewers and vibrant fabric studio. The fabric boutique offers a select range of hand picked fabrics, which prides itself on quality over quantity! There's a fast turn over of fabric inline with fashion & interior trends each season including a core line of high quality 100% cottons as well as linen, jerseys, cord, denim, viscose and polyester crepes…to allow both dressmakers & crafters ample choice for their projects! The product range is ever expanding and driven by customer feedback & request, they are inline with sewing workshops and most recently live Facebook sewing tutorials/sew-a-longs. Situated in the heart of Lytham St.Annes in The Ansdell Institute, on the lower ground floor of this grand Edwardian building, easily accessible by bus & train, both with stops only a few metres away.
Sewing is in my blood. My mum is a dressmaker and I was sewing in her home studio by the age of 5. Once I was slightly older I went to The University of the West of England and I received first class honours BA in fashion women’s wear. Upon graduating I’ve been lucky enough to work for Givenchy, Stuart Vevers, Luella Bartley, Giles Deacon and Paul Seville. In 2008 inspired by my love of upcycling and leather I started my own label and have sold over 5000 bags to boutiques and shops worldwide. In 2012 I started the RJ Leather Studio Sewing School and have taught thousands of students and helped launch hundreds of small businesses. I absolutely love teaching and seeing students ideas come to life. Whether you're a new or experienced sewer, there is always something to learn. As well as our online courses we continue to offer our in person courses down on the south cost of England, just outside of Brighton.
Bobbin Sewing School was set up by two ladies with passions for craft in Winchester at the beginning of 2012. It has gently evolved and in 2014 was taken over by Alison Warner who is keen to keep the same friendly format that is key to the Bobbin image. Aly has been looking to develop Bobbin further and has recently moved Bobbin to a beautiful new home a converted stable of an old Inn just off the High Street in the fabulous small town of Stockbridge in mid Hampshire. We also hold a Sewing Retreat on the South Coast. We are very lucky to have some fabulous talented tutors all with the same passion – to share their skills generously with you.

I started at a young age at my Grandmother’s knee, she was the most accomplished needlewoman I have ever known. By the time I attended secondary school, I could knit, crochet and embroider as well as turn a seam by hand and machine. The sewing machine was always out during my teenage years and has never been far from me since.
Hi! I'm Maryanne, mother of one and grandma of one. Before moving to Cornwall, I lived on a narrowboat cruising the canals of England. When we moved onto the boat, I needed to be able to earn a living and a chance phone call showed me the way forward. It was 2012, the country was in a recession, this lady phoned and asked what I was going to do, I hadn’t a clue we chatted and mulled over several ideas, I made a throwaway remark that I’d always sewn. She jumped on the idea, I thought everyone could sew, she explained that not everyone had a mum like mine who started teaching me when I was 5 years old!
Whether you’re a complete beginner who’s never used a sewing machine or a seasoned home dressmaker looking for the expert guidance needed to continue your dressmaking/pattern cutting journey, our welcoming and informal classes and are suitable for ALL levels of ability and experience.
