Fashion! Skills! Knowledge! Trips! Talks! Students will be given a comprehensive view of the fashion industry through exclusive trips, tours, talks from industry experts and masterclasses. Why not book an optional afternoon tea at The Ivy to make this an even more memorable experience? Through a combination of years of experience and listening to our student’s feedback, we've extended our course to include more highlights and opportunities for our 12-18-year-old students to get to know their fashion family. In addition, there's a larger focus on experimental design and pattern cutting whilst building their fabric knowledge. This programme is non-residential. This course is inclusive of male and gender-neutral designs. You will learn how to: • Assume the role of the designer and develop your own ideas into a design • Complete a fashion brief written by a design house. • Work with Ex LFW designer fabrics • Create mood boards and learn why designers use them • Pattern cut, sew and construct your own garment • Take your first steps into the fashion industry You’ll attend: • Talks from guest speakers within the industry • Industry professionals and careers talk • Tour around Jimmy Choo Academy including portfolio talk and insight into their programme • Sustainable fashion factory visit • Trips to museums/galleries Whilst learning valuable skills such as: • Communication • Fashion design • Fabric knowledge • Embellishment • Accuracy • Machine and hand sewing You will leave with: • Design development sheets • Your own mood boards • An outfit designed and made by yourself • A digital certificate of completion Level: Beginner Friendly INSTRUCTIONS • Students must arrive with packed lunches, snacks and a re-usable bottle of water each. • All materials and sewing equipment are provided for this workshop.

Dressmaking Workshops Working with calico fabric you can learn the elements of garment making with the right procedures step by step. Calico is easy to work with and you can see what you are doing on its crisp surface. Making samplers will quickly give you the confidence to sew all the elements of garment making, e.g. zips, pockets, shirt collars, and facings, in the actual fabrics. With our expertise and guidance, you can achieve beautiful results from your projects! Browse through the workshops to discover what each one involves. WORKSHOPS INCLUDE All materials are provided for in the technical workshops: fabrics, threads, zips, and haberdashery. The project-based workshops require you to bring your own fabric, trimmings, and haberdashery. Pattern workshops will be where you can learn how to make your own, or adjust a current pattern to your own design or fit. You will need to bring your sewing machine, its toolbox, instruction booklet, and small dressmaking scissors. We do have a spare sewing machine to reserve if you don’t have one, or if yours is too heavy. Venue is in the InStitches Sewing Room that is part of the Juliette McElligott Jewellery School. Coffee and Tea are provided. Day workshops will have a lunch break that you can bring something along for, and there are also Colyton Market Square shops and various cafes.
