Course Overview:

This course provides both underpinning knowledge of stoma care and practical techniques to deliver person centred support for someone who requires stoma care.

Course Aims:

• Describe the human digestive system
•  Explain the terms ‘stoma’, ‘colostomy’, ‘ileostomy’ and ‘urostomy’.
•  List some of the conditions that may necessitate stoma surgery.
•  Compare and contrast colostomy, ileostomy, and urostomy. 
•  Describe the different products available.
•  Know the procedure for fitting, emptying removing and re-applying stoma products.
•  Identify the issues involved in caring for a stoma and how you can support an individual who is living with one.
