Middle Nene Cruising Club

Had a lovely afternoon as a guest of my partner's daughter and son-in-law. Very quiet as the lockdown hasn't yet been fully lifted. We sat on the pontoon drinking tea..watching birds and seeing the sun slowly set. They are novices so are still acquainting themselves with their boat. I should up the rating when we go on the river. The grounds are extremely well maintained.

The condition of the lock, it’s immediate surrounds and the portage points are the responsibility of the Environment Agency and has nothing to do with the club. Anyone who is not satisfied with the navigation facilities should complain to the appropriate authority.

Arriving in a canoe today, paddling up river, the set up there is less than reasonable for anyone in anything other than a motorpowered boat. The lock is great for getting from one side to the other of the river Nene, but to have no portage get out on either bank side is ridiculous, as so many of the other locks do on this lovely river. Unfriendly signage and difficulty in getting through the obstacle doesn't make me want to return soon. Sorry but that's how I felt. There is a disused, lower...
