Merlin Academy Of Traditional Music

I live in a lovely and rather remote spot on a lake in northern Idaho. The mountains I look out on are our Selkirks. During the pandemic Merlin brought me inspiration, support and encouragement. I began remote fiddle lessons and joined Open Stages. This past winter I was able to spend 3 months in Melrose and took full advantage of the live opportunities, including those of friendship. I am back to remote but already planning my next trip. Thank you Merlin for nourishing my musical heart.

What a welcoming and magical place. As a tutor I am privileged to share tunes and chat with the most wonderful group of students and staff who make Merlin more than just a music school. We are a family sharing and supporting each other with music and a lot of laughs along the way.

My experience as singing tutor, group singing facilitator and musical director of Merlin Academy has been and will continue to be fulfilling in more ways than I can express. Working along- side an inspirational team and enabling singers of all ages to express themselves through song by discovering their uniqueness is a great privilege as is working in a warm, encouraging musical environment .

As an adult learner I can't recommend the Merlin tutor/s highly enough - I enjoy the learning, the company and the challenge of the Monday night fiddle lessons at North Berwick with Merlin Academy. I started from scratch and am so pleased with the progress I'm making. Don't hesitate to have a try at learning an instrument; you'll find an enthusiastic welcome from experienced staff (with much needed sense of humour and fun). Merlin is a great, great place to learn music and also make friends! Fantastic team behind the scenes to help you along the way. Open nights are a great way to dip your toe into performing to an audience and give you a confidence boost! A very easy going atmosphere for children and us older ones…due to work commitments I never managed Summer School but by all accounts they are amazing.
