My son wanted to start karate and after watching him for a while in class I decided to join in and I absolutely love it. It is a very supportive, encouraging and non judgemental environment, suitable for all ages and all levels of fitness. Everyone is made to feel welcome and equal. The karate teaching helps children learn how to stay focused and be respectful of one another. I would highly recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn karate, self defence and increase their fitness.

JB Karate academy is a brilliant family, friendly club, with a variety of ages training weekly you’re able to get fit, make new friends and learn new skills. JBK are a family for life, the club welcome you with open arms. A lot of students join when they are young and grow to become adults in the club- the progress and achievements are celebrated in the best possible way.

This is a fantastic martial arts club that welcomes the whole family. The instructors have decades of experience, are always friendly and all abilities are welcome. The club teaches the importance of respect, discipline and that hard work will result in big rewards. I can not recommend this club enough, having trained here for over 12 years.

My son started at JB Karate 10 years ago and was instantly made to feel like part of a family. The club gave him confidence and taught him discipline and we watched him grow each and every week whilst learning a tremendous skill. Now nearly 18 and he still loves attending the classes twice a week, it is a continuous learning journey, he never tires of. I would highly recommend JBK to anybody, best Karate club in Derby.

My son Owen who was 4 nearly 5 at the time wanted to try karate, and he wanted me to go with him for his first lesson! I looked at other clubs but chose JBK as they are family friendly and Sensei John and Sensei Jane have really encouraged us both over the years to reach our goals. 10 years on and we are both now 1st Dan Black belts and we’re not planning on stopping any time soon. It’s also great see how much Owen’s confidence has grown. We can’t recommend JBK enough, 5 stars all the way
