I’m Sarah, founder and teacher at CRAFT. I opened CRAFT in February 2020, it’s been a dream for sometime to have a space to be able to teach a subject I love so much. I started sewing as a young girl, sewing together scraps of fabric from my mums fabric box, altering clothes and creating new ones. I’ve always been something I have always enjoyed. I graduated with a first class honours degree in Education in 2009. After graduating I took up a teaching post in a secondary school, specialising in textiles and food technology. After having my first child in 2012 I decided not to return to the classroom and started a business making and selling children’s wear from home. When my second daughter arrived in 2016 I decided to start teaching again. I taught in the workshop room at the back of Annie’s fabric shop most weekends. Workshops became popular and from that CRAFT was born. I wanted to create a space that could be used to teach sewing workshops but also could work with other creative areas. I hope that when people visit CRAFT they feel relaxed and enjoy spending time in the workshop space. I really love teaching here. I love sharing my knowledge, my top tips and my expertise. My aim is to give my students confidence and to share my love and passion of sewing. I want everyone to leave feeling excited to start their next sewing project .

Sun Bear Yoga has a key focus on making yoga fun and accessible to all. In this funny old time we believe it's super important to take extra care of our kids and their families' emotional and physical health. Sun Bear Yoga combines yoga, play, fun, dance, drama, music, acro, storytelling, relaxation and mindfulness to nurture positive wellbeing and encourage community support and socialisation (team work- yay). Why is yoga good for kids? It improves concentration and co-ordination, develops body awareness, calms the racing mind and boosts self-esteem and inner confidence. Our mission is to create a space for some much needed time out, fun without distraction, giggles and to provide the opportunity for an emotional reset. We want to give kids and their families the tools to cope better with the daily stressors that come with modern family life. We believe in equality, inclusivity, tolerance, compassion and respect and these values form the foundations of our classes. All of our classes are completely secular and there will be no focus on religion. EVERYONE is welcome. We believe in spreading love and happiness to all. Kindness is our superpower! We offer classes for children 0-16y during term time and we run family yoga events out of term time. Right now our classes go up to 12y but as of September they will be available for 13-16y and we will also have dedicated classes for children with certain additional needs in Autumn 2021.

Also Tai Chi & Qigong Sunday mornings 10.30-11.30am Classes Saturday mornings, Wednesday evenings. Parents accompanying children train for FREE!! Saturday mornings, 9.30 -10.30am, St.Swithun's church hall, Waverly Road, Southsea - Parking available, car park accessed from Collingwood Road. Age 5+ Wednesday evenings 7-8pm Havelock Community Centre, Fawcett Road, Southsea. Upstairs Hall - ring buzzer for hall to be admitted. Age 16+ Sunday mornings 10.30-11.30am Havelock large room, Tai chi & Qigong. Yang Short Form, Chen Old Form and Qigong, exercises for balance, mobility and improved health All lessons are tailored to individual needs. Starting age for Wednesday classes is 16 (younger students will be accepted if they have prior experience). There is no upper limit! Shintai is a traditional Shotokan club, following a direct line from Hirokazu Kanazawa (who Sensei Tyrie trained and graded under). However, elements of Okinawan karate and Chinese martial arts, also get taught. We are not a Sports Karate class. Shintai is a martial art for health, self-defence, fitness and self-confidence. Competitive karate is taught, but it is not compulsory.
