A talk with NIKKI PARMENTER - Textiles/Mixed Media Artist

Join our TEA ’N CHAT with Textile Artist Nikki Parmenter, who will talk about her work, explaining some of the techniques she uses.
She will also demonstrate the plastic entrapment method she will be using for her workshop on Wednesday 6th November and show some finished examples. This will entail some layering of fabric, soldering and free machine embroidery and some ideas regarding ways of displaying the finished piece. 

Nikki taught art for 30 years to secondary school children, and having left full time work in 2016 , has been providing talks, demonstrations, summer schools, workshops to schools, groups and societies. She is a member of various art and textile groups.
She exhibits her work widely and has written a number of articles for both magazines and online sites. She is based in Cheshire and specialises in mixed media textile pieces, taking inspiration from a variety of sources and particularly interested in the way societies created a series of visual symbols to represent the things which were important to them. The way we breathe affects everything we do, everything we think and everything we feel. It affects our sleep, our digestion, our immune system, our energy levels, our emotions, our ability to think clearly and our relationships, to name but a few.
In this course we will be combining my passions of Qigong and Breathwork to help bring us into balance so we can move though Autumn into winter full of peace and vitality.
Why Qigong and Breathwork?
Qigong is breathwork (Qi is Breath), it is an amazing way of opening and clearing the body, of making space for our healthy energy to flow. It allows us to stay relaxed and receptive without forcing or pushing. It is easy to learn and naturally attuned to your individual body and how it wants to expand, release and recharge.
Breathwork is simply bringing our conscious attention to our breath and is one of the most powerful ways we have to change our state at any given moment. In the course i will introduce you to eight different breath techniques to help you to breathe better. Commit to just 10mins a day and you’ll be amazed at the results you can achieve.

This hybrid degree allows you to complete your first year of studies remotely by July 2025, before taking a short summer break and then continuing straight on to the second year of your chosen degree, studying in-person at our city-centre Plymouth campus, in September 2025. This option is available for the following degrees:
BA (Hons) Commercial Photography
BA (Hons) Fashion Design
BA (Hons) Fashion Media & Marketing
BA (Hons) Graphic Design
BA (Hons) Illustration
BA (Hons) Interior Design & Styling
REQUIREMENTS
To apply you will need to meet the following criteria:

Aged 18-70, at the start of the course
Interested in studying at Arts University Plymouth in January 2025
Want to explore higher education opportunities at an undergraduate level
Planning on studying in the UK on a student visa (if not a UK citizen)
Able to meet Arts University Plymouth Language requirements, more information on this here (International students)
Eligible for at least 3 years of student funding or looking at self-funding a Higher Education course. (More information on if you are eligible can be found at https://www.gov.uk/student-finance/who-qualifies.)
