St Michael’s Catholic College Ethos and Expectations The College is committed to bringing each student to the fullness of life through education. At St Michael’s we recognise there are no limits to a child’s potential and our aim is simple; to facilitate academic and personal success by bringing each person to the fullness of life through education within an environment that embraces Gospel and Salesian values – of serving others, respect, tolerance, consistent discipline, loving kindness, reflection, forgiveness and the celebration of success. It is our belief therefore that students grow into mature and responsible adults through following the Salesian principles of RUAH: Respect: Recognising and respecting the presence of Christ in every person Understanding: Being committed to learning and striving for academic excellence Affection: Sustaining high quality relationships as a result of loving kindness and consistent discipline Humour: Developing resilience by maintaining a balanced and optimistic approach to life Our students are expected to demonstrate these values through their actions and interactions in the following ways: Respect: Demonstrating Gospel and British values in your words and actions, serving the college and local community, being an ambassador for St Michael’s. Understanding: Being committed to your education, having excellent attendance and punctuality, working as hard as you can in lessons and at home, your books reflect consistently high effort and your behaviour in and around the college is excellent. Affection: Being polite and respectful to all staff and visitors, being helpful, working well with others, supporting and encouraging others to do well. Humour: Displaying positive attitudes to learning, overcoming challenges, participating in house and college events, doing your best to realise your ambitions. The success of St Michael’s Catholic College is built on these shared values. St John Bosco famously said “It is not enough for children to be loved; they must know that they are loved. At St Michael’s Catholic College, we strive to live up to this ideal every day.

Politics In Action

London

We are delighted to welcome our new Executive Director Paul Smyth, who comes to us with a wealth of experience and a strong reputation for ground breaking youth work. I am thrilled to have taken up the post of Executive Director with Politics in Action – and I want to start by congratulating my predecessor Patricia O’Lynn on her election to the Northern Ireland Assembly. We live in a turbulent time for politics around the world, nationally and locally – and this makes the work of supporting young people’s role as active citizens more challenging and even more important. We are emerging from a global pandemic which has put unprecedented restrictions on the lives and freedoms of young people, and which has impacted their learning, their social lives, their relationships and for some their mental health. Politics in Action responded proactively to these challenges by moving workshops online and ensuring continuity. I am optimisticwe can return to largely face-to-face delivery of our programmes with young people in schools and other settings, and can find new ways of engaging with more young people and in particular those who are not normally invited into conversations about politics and citizenship. Much of what we already do is in collaboration with schools and with other youth organisations. I see so much potential for additional collaborations that allow our little charity to punch above its weight. One of the many attractions of the role is the excellent Board of Trustees who provide strong governance, leadership and vision for Politics in Action. They bring significant social and political capital to the charity and use it in the interests of young people and our shared future. I would love to hear your ideas about how Politics in Action should direct our energies over the coming months and years. Feel free to drop me a line and I am always up for a coffee and a creative chat!

Thatcham

My name is Mike Hawthorne, founder of M-Theory Music. Here's a bit about me: Music has been a central element in my life from as far back as I can remember. Listening to, playing, creating, performing, DJing, producing, and teaching music have all featured throughout the years. While I am a proficient drummer, bassist, ukulele-ist (???), producer, and DJ, the guitar has always been my main instrument. I can't pinpoint where my love for guitar came from, but I do know that I was always drawn to it when I was younger. After getting into metal, grunge, punk and indie as a young teenager, the guitar made even more sense and my love for it grew and continues to do so to this day. I started learning the guitar approx 25 years ago, and very shortly after that, started sharing my learning with my friends. I found that I loved passing on the skills and knowledge almost as much as I enjoyed playing the instrument, and I took my first "proper" student (ie, not one of my friends!) when I was 17. I have been teaching people ever since then. I see it as a vocation and a personal duty to share the love of music with as many people as possible, and I'd still be doing it even after a lottery win! Since 2001, I have had at least one student on the go at any given time. I taught privately for many years, ans then began teaching with a local music service in 2010. In 2015 I was able to give up the "day job" and teach full time, something for which I am eternally grateful. I get to make a living out of my passion, I get to meet and form positive relationships with lots of wonderful people, and I get to share the joy of playing music with them... i keep wondering when i'm going to wake up!

We bring together the best of two worlds — advanced academic research in strategy and comprehensive expertise from business — to deliver customised training for industry leaders and help them address specific situations of strategic change. We form teams of strategy scholars and business experts who are best positioned to anticipate and understand critical shifts in an industry. Together they design a unique learning experience around a strategic problem that organisations in that industry are going to face. Then they deliver engaging sessions of collaborative learning that greatly improve participants’ strategic thinking. We can help you... Think ...to understand change As a leader, you deal with continuous change. You look at the ever new opportunities and challenges arising from technological innovation, from advancements in knowledge and science, from new trends in society, and from transformations in the natural environment. And you wonder. The history of business offers countless examples of dominant firms that have been wiped out by a change that they did not see coming. Understanding the nature and magnitude of change is key. It is the first step towards formulating a new strategy and designing a new role for your organisation. But problems are increasingly complex and interconnected. Traditional knowledge and standard ‘business school frameworks’ don’t always apply to these extraordinary situations. Through tailored, problem-based learning, we help you gain complete understanding of the changes to come. Learn ...to create a new vision Every minor shift in any industry has the potential to turn into that ‘big change’. The change that creates new scenarios of use, defines new business roles and relationships and gives rise to new leaders. To remain relevant, today’s leaders must gain a different understanding of strategy. We take you on a journey that will reframe your thinking. We help you ‘see’ today the impact that transformations in the business environment will have on your organisation tomorrow. Together we assess options, we travel pathways and we explore sinergies to find innovative solutions for the future. Together we create a new vision.

Armed Forces Networks: Sussex and Kent & Medway

armed forces networks: sussex and kent & medway

The Armed Forces Network (AFN) started in Sussex in 2011 and is a multi-organisational group which includes members from the NHS, MoD, Armed Forces Reservists, Mental and Physical Health Clinicians, the Royal British Legion, SSAFA and other interested charities and organisations from across Sussex (i.e. police and local authorities). In July 2016, this model was rolled out to Kent and Medway and is commissioned by the Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) across both Sussex and Kent & Medway. The members work together to improve the lives of the Armed Forces community (ex and serving personnel and their immediate families). The AFN also includes Service Champions from a wide range of the organisations across both counties who are advocates for the Armed Forces community and have the skills and knowledge to support through direct service provision, linking with other organisations or signposting to where additional support could be received. It is managed by the Armed Forces Director for both Sussex and Kent & Medway ICBs. Each Network aims to facilitate the ICBs and the local community in the delivery of the Armed Forces Covenant Commitment and the Armed Forces Act 2021. In November 2014, the AFN won a National Military and Civilian Health Partnership Award for its work on education, training and research with local military personnel. The AFN was commended for its work on developing a unique set of relationships to ensure organisations are identifying and meeting the specific needs of the Armed Forces community through local health and care services. The Support Team has continued to develop and deliver a range of resources, many of which are contained within this website. These included a wide range of CPD and other accredited courses, factsheets, flip tools of contacts, topic area specific pathways. This continued growth has been recognised in the national Soldiering On Awards where the Network was been a finalist for two years and a winner in 2020.

The Perth Fitness Camp - Scotland

the perth fitness camp - scotland

The Perth Fitness Camp is an INCLUSIVE community, a lifestyle, a movement for over 30's men & women who no matter what your size, no matter what level of fitness you are at and no matter how big you feel the Perth Fitness Camp will keep you moving forwards toward a leaner, stronger healthier and fitter looking body. WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT The Perth Fitness Camp are specialists in outdoor training and since 2009 we have helped over 30's men & women from Perth achieve results they thought were impossible. For many of my members that may mean training towards a specific event or to reveal those elusive abs. For the majority of my team it simply means getting a bit leaner, feeling fitter, stronger, having more energy and having the confidence to wear clothes that show off their bod as opposed to hiding it away. Why over 30's? As a dad in my 40's, a coach and former overweight guy....I get it!! The simple truth of the matter is that carefree days have been replaced by 24/7 responsibilities, marriage/relationships, a baby or two (or three), a mortgage and a boss who reminds you of all three. Maybe you'll agree.... Pringles and chocolate bars that once disappeared in a puff of metabolic smoke now linger like an oil spill. Get this >> did you know your physiological capacity - the overall performance of most of your body's systems decreases by around 1% per year from 30 onwards. Hence the pringle and chocolate hangover Muscle mass decreases by 3 - 5% each decade after your 30's So what can you do to safeguard this? You need to switch your focus to preventative fitness and follow a simple approach to nutrition that's sustainable for life and not just a faddy quick fix. Which is why I want to help you take back control just as I have using the very system that my clients use to stay leaner and fitter in their 30's, 40's and beyond.
