LOOKING FOR: PICTURE BOOKS Barry Timms is a children's picture book editorial consultant with over twenty years' experience. He has also edited preschool books, non-fiction and young fiction works. Barry's editorial roles include senior and managerial positions at Macmillan Children's Book, Walker Books and Little Tiger Group, making commercially successful books of the UK, US and international markets. Barry is also an award winning author of over fifteen picture books. This is NOT a Unicorn!, published by Nosy Crow, won the Stockport Children's Book Award 2022. Barry would like you to submit a covering letter and a maximum of two picture book texts to be discussed. This should be in one Word document with the cover letter at the top. The texts should be for children aged within the 2-6 years age bracket and can be in prose or rhyme. As well as conventional fiction narratives, narrative non-fiction is also acceptable. (In addition to the paid sessions, Barry is kindly offering one free session for low income/under-represented writers. Speaker Sarah Charlton, Consultant, DG Legal Sarah has a BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting and is a Fellow member of the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants. Her career spans over 35 years working within the legal sector, fulfilling roles from COFA through to CEO. During her career she has worked with a number of legal regulators, professional bodies and government organisations. Sarah has been a member of the Institute of Legal Finance and Management throughout her career, qualifying as a Fellow member in 2005. Sarah also served as chairperson between 2010-2012 and continues to serve as an Executive Council Member.

Behavioral Interviewing means asking candidates questions that will help you to discover how the interviewee acted in specific employment-related situations. Because past performance is a good indicator of how someone will act in the future, this style of interviewing is extremely useful, and the method of choice for recruiting teams. In this session, you will learn about behavioral vs. traditional interviewing, and how you can incorporate and develop your interviewing skills to ensure that you have the right candidate for the job. OBJECTIVES Participants will be able to: Build a consistent framework and process to ensure an unbiased candidate experience; Choose job specifications and determine how success will be measured (skills); Identify characteristics and qualities that will support the required skills; Prepare questions to elicit descriptions of behaviors, attitudes, and skills necessary for the job; Review legal and appropriate interviewing etiquette/guidelines, including social media research; Screen candidates, using resumes and phone interviews; and Conduct successful role-play Behavioral Interviews in class.
