Most of our work involves training our members to speak to mainstream media, but we also run creative projects – photography and film-making, for example – and provide training in writing blogs and articles, using social media, and public speaking. We equip people with the skills and confidence to tell their story in the most effective way – skills that are also useful in everyday life. We share our knowledge about how the media works, how to understand public attitudes and how to craft a message that cuts through the noise. I love being hands on creative, cutting, sticking, chopping, painting, splattering but also being quite techie and having trained in pattern cutting and tailoring somehow marries perfectly with knit/crochet design and pattern writing. I have worked in house at Rowan yarns for almost 20 years being the Senior Designer, technical manager and also styling and art directing the majority of photo shoots it is a varied and rewarding job. I have also pursued an independent side with tutoring at residential workshops in Tuscany and more locally plus selling my wares at yarn events such as Yarndale. For an anxious hermit these can be a bit of a worry but the reward of meeting all the crafters and other designer makers is always worth it!

DYT’s mission is to help young people who struggle with reading, writing and language. This group of learners consistently underperform in literacy because of underlying difficulties that are not responsive to standard educational approaches, and may require targeted intervention, either in class or in a small group or individual setting. We advocate for the use of evidence-based practice and pride ourselves on having a team of experts who have both current knowledge and experience of working in schools alongside teachers and teaching assistants in both primary and secondary settings. We have developed our approach to collaborating with schools around our own Literacy Difficulties Framework, which acts as both a position statement and guidance on recommended practice. Georgia State University and The Learning Agency Lab are excited to announce the launch of the sequel to the first Feedback Prize competition– The Feedback Prize – Predicting Effective Arguments. This competition is also hosted on Kaggle, and will build on its predecessor by tasking participants with evaluating argumentative elements in essays written by students in grades 6-12 as effective, adequate, or ineffective. This competition also features a dual-prize track, with one track focusing on standard models and another track focusing on computationally efficient models. The computationally efficient track incentivizes participants to create models that are more environmentally friendly and easier to adapt to real-world educational contexts. The algorithms developed will help students receive more individualized feedback on their writing

After several years of experience teaching EAL to all age groups, she began teaching IB Diploma Programme English and ToK in 2002. Since then she has also taken on the roles of examiner and workshop leader for the IB. Her perspective has been shaped and informed by her varied experience and her teaching in very different and diverse contexts in Greece, Germany, the UK and China. Additionally, her experience from working at residential schools has enhanced her awareness of the impact of holistic education on teaching and lifelong learning. Her understanding of the challenges of the interaction of national curricula with the IB Diploma Programme as well using English as the medium of instruction in international schools have become an integral feature of her professional agenda. The administrative positions she has also held -IB Diploma Programme Coordinator and Head of English- inform not only her understanding of contextual and pedagogical implications for the teaching of English for both students and teachers, but also the impact of secondary education on raising internationally-minded global citizens who will continue to learn, earn and contribute to a sustainable future for all. Anna has a passion for reading, for learning that challenges expectations and curricula, for asking searching questions, as well as for strategic thinking for educational institutions. She is the author of several academic papers in Theoretical Linguistics and her most recent writing project being the Oxford University Press English A: Literature Course Companion for the new IB Diploma Programme curriculum (first teaching 2019). Between workshops, consultancies, writing and assignments, she enjoys reading, blogging and spending time with her children, her friends and her former students, wherever they are.

My career as an artist started in 1996 when I was asked to illustrate articles from a national religious magazine in Italy. Through the years I developed skills in both digital illustration and hand paint with watercolour and acrylic. In 2002 I decided to take it further and attend a school of art and, in 2005, I graduated as a Comics illustrator and special effects artist. Since I was always attracted by the movie world, I decided to use my new certificate to approach this fantastic world. I worked few years for a production company which took me away from my Country of origin and gave me the opportunity to develop my skills as an artist and writer. I wrote several screenplays for the big screen and illustrated storyboards on a daily basis and here is when I started thinking about writing and illustrating stories for children. “The first tale of Sarah” in fact was born as an idea for a children’s movie but not developed more than a script. In 2015 I moved in the UK and I started working on my first personal project “The Tale of Sarah”, a three books series which I’m writing and illustrating. The first one was published in 2017 and I’m currently working on the second volume. My goal in sharing these stories is to share a message of hope with readers of all ages. As an artist I keep on developing my skills every day and trying new ways and techniques to improve my illustrations. In 2018, I enrolled BA in Illustration at the Open College of the Arts.
