LOOKING FOR: ADULT FICTION, NON-FICTION Donald Winchester began his publishing career at Penguin Press – working on a variety of non-fiction titles – before moving to A P Watt, then the world’s oldest literary agency. There he worked for five years with a number of acclaimed and prize-winning authors and began building a list of fiction and non-fiction for adults. Donald is building his list and is interested in literary fiction and well-written commercial fiction, particularly debut authors, as well as memoir. He is particularly interested in literary fiction which maintains a high level of prose, pushes boundaries of style, while retaining emotional heart and a sense of plot. He’s also looking for upmarket fiction which builds a fully-formed plot with a satisfying emotional arc, whether that be historical or contemporary – and the mixing of tropes from genre fiction (crime, sci-fi, romance, etc) also interest him. In non-fiction, he is keen to see writing on history, popular science, social issues, nature, music, sport, film and technology. In all these areas he’s looking for experts in their fields who can convey their expertise and enthusiasm to a wide audience in an appealing way. She began as an agent at Toby Eady Associates, following three years as a Marketing Executive for HarperCollins Fiction. Watson, Little is a longstanding agency representing writers across all tastes and genres and with a strong reputation for extending book rights into Translation and into Film and TV. Laetitia is looking for upmarket and literary Fiction, and for creative Non-Fiction. She welcomes writers from all walks of life and is keen to hear from a variety of voices and life experiences. Laetitia is looking for novels with a strong concept, question or emotional scenario, fresh perspectives, well worked out narratives, and arresting style. She is more often looking for contemporary settings, and loves to be immersed in a distinctive place, but also likes historical novels, as long as they speak lucidly for today. Contemporary issues like housing, money, and the experience of different workplaces appeal, as does unconventional family life and relationships. Laetitia is also open to novels with surreal or fantastical aspects, that throw universal storylines into the challenges of today (and tomorrow)’s complex world. It is always exciting to see a story so relatable, or as yet unheard, or resonant that it speaks to different countries in different languages. LOOKING FOR: ADULT FICTION, NON-FICTION Hannah joined the publishing industry in 2017 after a degree in German & Spanish and a Masters in Translation Studies, with a passion for literary translation. After two years scouting for international publishers and production companies, she then spent four years at Northbank Talent Management, where she represented a wide range of authors including Phoebe Luckhurst, Rebecca Ryan, Marion Todd, Nina Millns and Jonathan Whitelaw. After a year as acting Head of Media Rights at Penguin Random House UK, Hannah joined Watson, Little as Literary and Book-to-Screen Agent in 2024. In fiction, Hannah is looking for excellent writing which marries a strong voice with a compelling plot, across a range of genres. She loves ambitious stories that take her to unexpected places – either in style or setting – particularly if they sit in that upmarket-literary crossover space. She feels just as immersed in an intimate coming-of-age novel as in an incisive family drama or darkly funny psychological thriller, particularly where there’s a fresh approach or something to say about the world we live in.
