bailiffgate museum and gallery

The concept behind Bailiffgate Museum and Gallery was simple. Put heritage at the heart of the community by creating a volunteer-run museum for the people of Alnwick and District. Include interesting and educational permanent exhibits. Above all, showcase the wonderful heritage, art and craft expertise in the area. Finally in the year 2000 the ideal building became available. The beautiful old St Mary's church in Bailiffgate is close to Alnwick Castle. In addition it boasts original stained-glass windows and wonderful ornate interiors. The team began to create a business plan, containing designs to re-purpose the church as a first class heritage hub for Alnwick. A first-class museum Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery is a small, independent local museum and gallery. It is led and run by a team of dedicated volunteers. Its objective is to be a people’s museum that preserves and celebrates the heritage of Alnwick and district. In addition it aims to provide a excellent community, educational and tourist resource. The permanent local history collection is maintained, strengthened and developed by specialist teams. The collection is accessible to local residents and visitors to the area through permanent and temporary exhibits. The lower two floors of our Museum were reinterpreted in 2014. As a result, visitors can explore local history and heritage with a larger collection of items on permanent display.

Newham New Deal Partnership was established in 2004, and has its roots in community development and regeneration. We work locally and strategically across Newham and beyond. Our vision is of proactive and creative communities without barriers where everyone is able to fulfil their potential and live in dignity. Our aim is to be an agent of community cohesion and transformation through delivering volunteer and training opportunities, services to vulnerable and hard to reach groups, place making and the arts projects which inspire communities, enrich society and stimulate people to fulfil their potential. Our Board of Trustees comprise people with local knowledge and understanding of local communities together with management and business skills.

rushmere farm workshops

Our farming business is now carbon negative. Read report. Vision: Proving productive farming alongside abundant nature (whilst occasionally having a day off). The ambition at Rushmere Farm was always to grow food productively, whilst maintaining a place for wildlife. Now, the final steps towards certified organic, nature friendly farming have been taken in a commitment to grow nutrient dense, healthy food, with a positive environmental impact. We are now running lots of workshops, volunteer days and feasts with opportunities to stay in a yurt, a shepherd’s hut or use the space for your own activities.

the power of resilience cic

In January 2022 a core group of the members constituted a local community group to provide ongoing support and aftercare for those facing adverse life circumstances. Providing volunteer and employment opportunities within Tameside, Greater Manchester and beyond, The Power of Resilience is now incorporated as a Community Interest Company to continue to fulfil its aims of building emotional, mental, physical, social and spiritual resilience in the community. Since January 2021 Julie has been supported by a fabulous team of volunteers. A number of these have sat on the Executive Board for the community group. Two of these have now joined Julie as Non-Executive Directors for the CIC making joint decisions and planning its direction and reach.

west central london fixers

West Central London Fixers bring together volunteer repairers and the community to fix their electronics for free. The idea is to nurture repair culture in the community, rather than throwing away electronics – indeed e-waste has become a huge environmental problem. The events are open to volunteer learner repairers so are educational as well. WCL Fixers currently organise monthly free repair events at the Dalgarno Trust and the Space in North Kensington as well as at the Livat shopping centre in Hammersmith. The idea however is to have three branches: WCL Fixers – North Kensington WCL Fixers – Hammersmith WCL Fixers - Westminster - from April 2023 We are supported by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the London Borough of Hammersmith Fulham. We work in partnership with the Restart Project. West Central London Fixers also engages in the private repair and recycling of laptops. Reuse things: Library of Things, also present at Livat Hammersmith, helps you save money and reduce waste by affordably renting out useful Things like drills, sound systems and sewing machines from local spaces. Welcome to our Espression Arts Family, make yourself at home whilst I pop the kettle on. How are you today? Espression Arts is a creative community led by Me, Catherine, the founder, the glue behind our special, arty enterprise. I live in a small village partner to a very patient Daddy Jean who puts up with the hours of work and energy we give to projects and our clients. I am Mummy to my two beautiful children, Melodie 7, and Jerome 11, who are often with me on projects and at events, along with Daisy Dog who sometimes comes along too! I grew up with a creative and hard-working family, My dedication, work ethic, and focus for things I believe in, I get from them. My Mum who now lives with Parkinson’s in an annex in our garden spends her spare time when she isn’t bowling in the village as one of Espression Arts many creative volunteers. If I am not working I am found snuggling on the sofa watching films with a gin and tonic! Whilst studying Visual Arts at Goldsmiths University London I enjoyed spending my spare time getting to know the local community, working in pubs, and helping with play schemes. Since then, I spent 25 years developing my community facilitation and project management skills starting in youth work management working for an environmental charity in Southeast London. In 2009 we left the big city and started our Pottery Painting Community Journey in the historic town of Canterbury, opening our interactive arts café. This is where our family grew with everyone who loved pottery painting as much as we did! Sadly, the interactive arts café, closed at the end of 2020 during the Covid19 Pandemic, but we are still going strong! We continue sharing arts and wellbeing experiences with others! Happily our Espression Arts Family is just getting bigger and bigger as a result. In 2017, our family business became not for profit and became a Social Enterprise which has helped us to take profits from sales of our ceramic products, parties, and workshops, combined with successful grant applications, and deliver some of the best community projects in Kent. I am proud of our position in the local community feel respected for both business and charitable, endeavours, before the pandemic we were awarded Kent Messenger Best Creative Volunteer Project for both Canterbury and all of Kent, we were even finalists for Kent Dementia Friendly Awards. We under-promise and over-deliver with passion for people and give everyone the opportunity to experience art. There are many ways you could support our creative family! Our workshops have served as intense social learning sessions and therapeutic retreats to adults, and our children’s workshops have helped children express themselves and make large strides in their artistic endeavours. As reflected in our principles, all our sessions are inclusive of people with special education needs (SEN) and learning difficulties. We have helped children with SEN develop their confidence and become more involved in art. Our approach to teaching and learning is focused on using art to build a creative local community founded on principles of inclusivity. We provide a platform to showcase the work of our creatives via our Group Exhibitions - we also host and take part in national events such as The Big Draw and Lumiere London - the UK’s biggest light festival - and in local events like the Fabula Festival. We run pop-ups, co-operate with businesses alongside our workshops, and collaborate with non-profit organisations in addition to organising after school clubs with local schools. Devon First Aid was founded in 1999 by Mrs Helen Smith. Helens professional history included time working as a Senior Nurse Advisor at NHS Direct a Resuscitation Nurse Trainer in Devon and latterly as a School Matron in a private school. David has worked with Helen for several years providing support in training and assessing groups until Helen handed over the reigns in the summer of 2017. David has had a rich career in Health Care. He started in the St John Ambulance aged 12, Joined the Army as a Combat Medical Technician at 16 and trained to work in Operating Theatres a few years later. In 1992 He qualified as a Registered General Nurse working children with disabilities, elderly care, prison health care, NHS Direct and going on to qualify and practice as Specialist Community Public Health Nurse. David began his training career as an Officer with the RAF Volunteer Reserve where he maintains his affiliation with the Combined cadet force to this day. Helen developed a training ethos of gentle, fun, educational and practice-based learning which David continues to deliver.
