We offer a unique approach to music learning with one-on-one lessons in guitar, ukulele, drums, woodwind, brass, strings, piano, Celtic instruments and singing! The Camp is a wonderful introduction to music and various instruments. Students are put into groups of similar age and every 30 minutes switch to a different teacher and instrument with a 30 minute lunch break in the middle. Students will learn singing, drums, keyboards and guitar/ukulele for a fun and educational week. The camp is €125 for the week. Siblings will receive a 10% discount if two or more family members sign up. Morning slot: 10.30am to 1pm, Afternoon slot: 2pm to 4.30pm

Healthy Living Initiatives ran from 2006 to 2020, funded by Glasgow City Council integrated grants. Annexe staff worked across Townhead, Anderston, Yorkhill, Whiteinch and Partick developing and delivering health and wellbeing activities including physical activities, stress management and healthy cooking workshops. From 2011 to 2019 the Connects Project operated with Lottery funding - working with older people in the community to develop and deliver an exciting programme of activities to reduce loneliness and tackle isolation. Many activities were supported by volunteers who, through their involvement in the project, gained confidence to help others and give something back to their community. Partick Pluckers ukulele group is one example. Another is the Knit n Natter group. The global travels of their knitted penguins are a whole other story! Many groups continue their activities today as volunteer-led groups as a legacy of the Connects Project.

Idler is a company devoted to helping people to lead more fulfilled lives. We publish a bi-monthly magazine, produce online courses and run live events. Our story Back in 1991, bored to tears by his job, 23 year old journalist Tom Hodgkinson lay on his bed and dreamed of starting a magazine called The Idler. He’d found the title in a collection of essays by Dr Johnson, himself a constitutionally indolent man. How to live, that was the question. How to be free in a world of jobs and debt? And curse this alarm clock. Tom was fortunately sacked from his job and started to sign on. He wandered across the road to where his old friend, designer and writer Gavin Pretor-Pinney lived. Gavin was the kind of person who could help Tom to realise this dream. And he did. In August 1993, the pair produced issue one of the Idler. It had the sub-title “literature for loafers”. Dr Johnson was the cover star and there was an interview with magic mushroom guru Terence McKenna. Contributors included a young journalist called Louis Theroux (pictured above at the Idler Festival, 2019). The magazine has since enjoyed a number of incarnations. In the nineties it was published by the Guardian newspaper, then by Ebury publishing. Tom published the Idler as an annual collection of essays until 2014, then relaunched the mag in 2016. Victoria Hull and Tom Hodgkinson Victoria Hull and Tom Hodgkinson The Idler Academy The Idler Academy, founded at a festival in 2010, is the Idler’s educational offshoot. It is a school which offers online courses in the classical liberal arts and practical skills. From March 2011 to December 2015 we ran a small bookshop, café and event venue in Notting Hill. The Idler Academy teaches philosophy, calligraphy, music, business skills, English grammar, ukulele, public speaking, singing, dancing, drawing, self-defence and other subjects. Here you can educate yourself in the ideas of Plato or learn the ukulele, either online or at an event or retreat. A dancing lesson with the Mudflappers at Festival No 6 The Idler Academy was born at a festival. Founders Tom and his partner Victoria Hull had always been festival-goers, and in 2008 they were invited by the founders of the Secret Garden Party to run a series of literary talks. They were given a yurt and built a medieval garden in the shade of a lime tree. They put on talks from Crass’s Penny Rimbaud, QI’s John Mitchinson, poet Clare Pollard and radical economist Andrew Simms. In 2009 Tom and Victoria took the Idler Academy to the Port Eliot Festival in Cornwall. They have also appeared at Wilderness, Shambala, Byline and the Good Life Experience. My name is Mike Hawthorne, founder of M-Theory Music. Here's a bit about me: Music has been a central element in my life from as far back as I can remember. Listening to, playing, creating, performing, DJing, producing, and teaching music have all featured throughout the years. While I am a proficient drummer, bassist, ukulele-ist (???), producer, and DJ, the guitar has always been my main instrument. I can't pinpoint where my love for guitar came from, but I do know that I was always drawn to it when I was younger. After getting into metal, grunge, punk and indie as a young teenager, the guitar made even more sense and my love for it grew and continues to do so to this day. I started learning the guitar approx 25 years ago, and very shortly after that, started sharing my learning with my friends. I found that I loved passing on the skills and knowledge almost as much as I enjoyed playing the instrument, and I took my first "proper" student (ie, not one of my friends!) when I was 17. I have been teaching people ever since then. I see it as a vocation and a personal duty to share the love of music with as many people as possible, and I'd still be doing it even after a lottery win! Since 2001, I have had at least one student on the go at any given time. I taught privately for many years, ans then began teaching with a local music service in 2010. In 2015 I was able to give up the "day job" and teach full time, something for which I am eternally grateful. I get to make a living out of my passion, I get to meet and form positive relationships with lots of wonderful people, and I get to share the joy of playing music with them... i keep wondering when i'm going to wake up!
