At the end of the 5 days, Learners will attain an RQF Award in the requirements of FD&FA systems for non-domestic buildings BS 5839-1: 2017.

This one day course will support teachers and RSE leads in special colleges and special schools with post 16 learners to deliver a meaningful curriculum through the Preparing for Adulthood outcomes. The course will explore key issues for older learners, including how to teach about practical aspects of relationships such as attraction and fancying people, starting relationships, negotiation and consent discussions, and how to keep yourself safe. Participants will leave with increased confidence to develop and deliver a skills-based, rights focused curriculum that will empower learners to be able to navigate their personal lives and relationships with autonomy.   Aim: To develop confidence to create and deliver an age-appropriate, rights based RSE curriculum for young adults with learning disabilities.   Outcomes: Participants will develop understanding of requirements for RSE for older learners, including the statutory guidance and preparation for adulthood outcomes, and how RSE can support independent living consider specific challenges young people with SEND may face in developing relationships and explore practical and creative ways to support relationship skill development explore strategies to address sexualised behaviour, and what to do if a learner begins or wants to masturbate in college   Who is this course for? This one day course is ideal for teachers and RSE leads working in special schools and tutors in colleges with older learners, up to age 25, and beyond.

LOOKING FOR: MG, ADULT FICTION Jo Williamson has been in publishing for over 25 years. Having worked in Children’s books PR for Dorling Kindersley, HarperCollins and Orion, she started as an agent with Antony Harwood in 2008. She feels very privileged being with authors at the very start of their publishing journey and enjoys close working relationships with all her clients. From editorial help, general advice on the publishing world, guiding careers long-term and general cheerleading, she feels she has the perfect job. Although nothing is off limits and she loves being surprised by submissions, In middle grade children's fiction, Jo is particularly looking for books with heart, epic adventures with voice-led characters, and younger funny fiction with series potential.  In adult fiction, page-turning Commercial Women’s and Book Club fiction are right up Jo's street, including psychological suspense, thriller, cosy crime and books that don’t quite fit the mould. Above all, she wants stories that linger long after the final page has been read. Jo is not the right fit for police procedurals. The purpose of this qualification is to enable learners to develop the knowledge and skills so they can engage, facilitate, educate and support clients in a gym or health club environment. Completing this qualification allows learners to access Gym Instructor jobs.

LOOKING FOR: PICTURE BOOKS, YOUNG FICTION, CHAPTER BOOKS, MG, YA Penny Holroyde has worked in children's publishing for almost 30 years from foreign rights at Walker Books to Rights Director at Candlewick Press in the USA, before becoming an agent specialising in children's books with the Caroline Sheldon Literary Agency. In 2015 Penny co-founded Holroyde Cartey with Claire Cartey, former art director in children's books at Hachette. The agency focuses exclusively on authors and illustrators for the children's book market. Penny has a particular love for picture books but is looking for authors and illustrators working across fiction and non-fiction for all children's ages from pre-school to crossover. She's always looking for humour in picture books and chapter books and heart with some messaging in MG. In YA she's looking for strong character with contemporary settings. She'd also be interested in seeing some horror in YA. Penny is offering 121 sessions for young fiction, middle grade, YA and picture book writers. For chapter books, MG and YA fiction, please submit a covering letter, synopsis and the first three chapters of your manuscript in a single word document.
