About Edinburgh School of English was founded in 1969 and has gained a reputation as one of the UK’s leading English language schools. Over the years, it has developed a variety of intensive English language courses to suit both adults and young learners. Previously located on the Royal Mile in the Old Town, the school is now located in Queen Street in the heart of the New Town and in the magnificent Georgian building of the Basil Paterson College campus. The programmes for 17 year olds and over, available all year round, are designed for general English purposes, professional English purposes and academic purposes, with preparation for Cambridge and IELTS examinations. Since 2018, I’ve taught over 1500 lessons to almost 200 different students across different platforms online. I’ve met students from a range of different ages to a range of different levels to a range of different countries, and something I found with many students is that only having live lessons isn’t enough, it is vital for students who want to seriously improve in any language to be self-disciplined, to be able to dedicate at least 10-20 minutes a day doing self-study. However, many students often lose commitment or motivation to continue and unfortunately, there is so much I can do for them as their online tutor. Therefore, the idea of EC Language was born.

Matthew is a writer and teacher living in Glasgow, Scotland. He studied English Literature at the University of Glasgow and has been teaching English in schools and to foreign language students for fifteen years.  His most recent novel, The Stone in My Pocket, was published by The Conrad Press in 2021 and he also writes short stories, poetry, creative non-fiction, and arts reviews. Matthew has spoken at various book launches, festivals, and writing groups and has been published in several magazines, journals, and anthologies. He is a contributing writer for The Wee Review and won the 2019 National Trust for Scotland Morton Writing Competition.
