Between 1998-2002 I have studied and graduated Traditional Chinese Medicine (Acupuncture, Herbology and Tuina) in an incorporate study program between Reidman International College for Complementary and Integrative Medicine and Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in China. During these 4 years of study I was privileged to be exposed to many different methods of healing and therapy and took additional classes outside the TCM frame. I’ve graduated Shiatsu therapy and practised daily Qi Gong and meditation. This is when I first experienced and immediately fell in love with Yoga. In 2012, 14 years into my Yoga practice of different styles, I decided that I'm ready to share my love for Yoga, and embarked on many different training: Vinyasa, Prana Flow, Teen Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Naada Yoga including Gong Mastery, Sound Energy Medicine and Kirtan leadership. I am now teaching my own style, a combination influenced by my many teachers and incorporating the full range of disciplines I studied over the years. My aim is to create a space where we can practice yoga in its many aspects and at any level. A place where one can focus on one’s Self and feel safe and capable to allow physical, emotional and spiritual growth.

I am Catriona - I just wanted to say a little about me and Yoga. My yoga practice started more than 25 years ago. I became impassioned with yoga, when I realised the holistic benefits of regular practice - how Yoga looked after all of me, not just my body, but also my mind and emotions - a yoga tool kit that I could use wherever I was at any one time. I found yoga extremely useful for dealing with everyday stress, especially the breathing techniques that yoga has to offer - pranayama. I finally had an opportunity to explore yoga further in 2016 when I attended a foundation course with The British Wheel of Yoga, which I found hugely enjoyable, I immediately started training with BWY and completed their 500 hour teacher training diploma. I have been teaching yoga since 2017 here in Langholm, a small town in the beautiful Scottish Borders. We are very lucky to be surrounded by lovely countryside and getting out in amongst nature is inspiring and helps me to re-connect to what’s important. My interest in yoga has reminded me that I love to learn and so I continue to attend workshops and additional training to inform my teaching.

Minority Matters is a charity that started in 2010 to provide children and young people educational support. Our purpose was to ensure that children from disadvantaged backgrounds were succeeding academically, so that they could break the cycle of poverty. Over the years, our role in the community grew to the point where parents were coming to us for assistance with wide ranging issues. As we were dealing with matters beyond the educational needs of the children, we started to engage with local authorities and our role grew organically beyond educational support. While we have remained true to our grass roots, we now deliver community focused projects to empower parents and increase the safeguarding of children. Our Vision Minority Matters’ vision is: to see a world in which children and young people from black and ethnic minority migrant backgrounds achieve their full potential, are protected from grooming and criminal exploitation and integrate into British society, and are not affected by the economic-socio circumstances they are born into, and/or their postcode. Our Mission Our mission is to reduce the impact of educational and employment inequalities, social, economic and geographical disadvantage on black ethnic minority migrant communities, through the provision of tailored support services, advice and advocacy, representation and a safe trusted space, led by the community in which they can trust. Our aim is to work in partnership with communities, to promote social inclusion, child safeguarding and increased engagement with voluntary and statutory services. In addition, we utilise professional and personal experiences to influence available statutory service delivery and the creation of new ones, such as those responding to the issues of grooming and criminal exploitation of children and young people. Minority Matters continues to assess community needs by developing programmes that will ensure parents are empowered and equipped with the skills and tools they need to better help, safeguard and protect their family. Bria began teaching Gaelic to adults in 2017. She strives to share her love of the language through creative and enthusiastic teaching. She has taught all levels of Gaelic language, from Beginner to Advanced. She has been leading Gaelic song classes and workshops for over a decade, both on her own and as part of outreach duo Glaikit Carnyx. Bria has also been leading nature walks and workshops, sharing her love and knowledge of nature and its relationship with Gaelic culture for several years.
