Richard Powers (US) is a full-time instructor in dance history and contemporary social dance forms at Stanford University Dance Division, Department of Theater and Performance Studies. His principal focus since 1975 has been social dance forms, from the Renaissance to today. Specializations include 19th century American and European social dance, dances of the Ragtime Era and Jazz Ages, and currently evolving vernacular dance forms. Learn to Lindy Hop 3-hour workshop with Simon Selmon Lindy Hop - the grand-daddy of all the Swing dances, combining 6 count, 8 count & Charleston variations, is an expressive, improvised dance form that is still enjoyed today, almost 100 years after it's inception! This workshop is aimed at Fast Beginners and those who have done some Lindy Hop classes before but want to understand the technique and connection behind the moves. Simon, who has been dancing the Lindy Hop since 1986 will be sharing his experience of this dance form. It's about letting the spirit of the dance move you, having fun and feeling more confident on the dance floor. No partner required and whilst no experience is necessary, the class will move at a faster pace than absolute beginners and is suitable for those with some experience.
