Following new measures issued by the Prime Minister on 10th May 2020. Our office will be open from 8 am to 1 pm from Tuesday 12th May 2020 to Friday 15th May 2020. This will be for any enquiries and to allow us to contact our customers and rearrange courses. From Monday 18th May 2020 Gas Flare Limited will be open normal opening hours and will be running various courses with controlled numbers and in conjunction with the government COVID 19 guidelines https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/ We take the present Coronavirus situation very seriously; we have therefore made this decision based on the health and well-being of all our staff and customers. Anyone attending Gas Flare Limited from Monday 18th May 2020 onwards are required to bring appropriate P.P.E to be able to undertake training and/or assessment. We would urge our customers not to attend Gas Flare Limited if they are experiencing COVID 19 symptoms. If you have any outstanding queries or questions, please do not hesitate to contact our office for clarification. Gas Flare Limited training centre, based in Bristol, is an accredited BPEC and Gas Safe registered assessment centre catering for already qualified gas engineers and those looking to gain access to the gas industry. Whatever your needs our team of highly experienced gas trainers and assessors will guide and support you through the entire process. Training and assessment takes place in our well-equipped, purpose built facility which provides a realistic environment with the aim of building confidence and developing the professionalism needed to work safely in the gas industry. We have identified that a trainee’s confidence is very much boosted by a ‘hands on’ approach as opposed to slowly working through units in manuals. Our aim is to promote a relaxed atmosphere and course members will be provided with light refreshments and lunch to support this. Free car parking is available. A local accommodation package at a discounted rate can also be arranged. Located in Bristol, Gas Flare Limited is well situated close to the M32/M4/M5 for easy access from all directions. Gas Flare Limited has a variety of gas training courses ranging from domestic gas, commercial gas, LPG, and combustion performance testing. We also offer oil, essential electrics, unvented hot water, water regulations, legionella and energy efficiency training and assessment courses. Brushstrokes Courses provides art instruction and courses, building creative confidence in a variety of artistic skills, from drawing to painting. Students are given individual support and taught best practices while remaining encouraged to explore their own artistic identity. Founded in 2020 by qualified art teacher Laura Truesdale, Brushstrokes has already helped over 100 artists learn the skills to create their masterpiece. Each Brushstrokes course is designed to accommodate, grow, and challenge artists at every level. Beginners will enjoy Laura’s encouragement and fun teaching style. Intermediate students will be challenged to push themselves. Established artists will find new inspiration or engage with novel mediums to round their craft. Each week’s lessons build on the week prior, creating habits and artistic tools that will stick for life. Free from institutional restraints, Brushstrokes puts student wellbeing back at the heart of the classes. Laura draws on her background in social work, PGCE training, and over a decade of teaching experience to ensure students are supported. If you want to learn the history of art, the context of a piece of work, build your creative confidence, develop technical skill, brush up on your existing skills, or be inspired, then Brushstrokes Courses is for you. Laura gained her BA in Art from the University of Reading in 2013 and went onto to achieve her PGCE in Secondary School Art Teaching in 2016. Since receiving Qualified Teacher Status in 2017, she has taught in the local community, before establishing Brushstrokes Courses in January 2020.

m on an art journey and I’d love to take you with me! In 2017 after a 20-year break, I started painting again. I bravely joined a local art trail which involved showing my art and it was the incentive I needed. During my painting break I spent my days working in the finance industry, tele communications, then Human Resources but creating art on a regular basis and having my art as a career was never far from my thoughts. In 2018 I left my career in HR and took voluntary redundancy. It was the scariest thing I’ve done career wise, but I’ve not looked back since!

Fun, boozy group painting workshops. Instructor led, we help bring out your creativity and you’ll surprise yourself! Hen parties, birthdays, friends’ night out, date night, team building. At the moment, I’m working on a new project to recycle used canvasses. At the end of each Paint by Wine workshop, I have an additional copy of the original painting. During lockdown I’ve been playing with oil paints and painting over them. You can see a few on the wall as they’re hanging on display in the studio. Soon, I’ll put on a small online exhibition on the previous site studiolx.co.uk.

Jenni's work incorporating a bigger sense of the abstract, self expression and a little bit of the landscape. The abstract comes from love of the outdoors, the sea, her Cornish upbringing and Jenni’s dyslexic tendencies. With being so visual I carry this with me and find a need to put it somewhere which is down in a creative way.Jenni often finishes her work with thicker heavier lines and this is a nod towards the line and text she finds so difficult to make sense of when reading. Jenni sees in pictures and finds that gathering information from her surrounding is easy to implement into her painting. The narrative here explains that colours are the confusion, often when its overwhelmingly busy and ‘noisy’. Jenni declares ‘it is often misunderstood, the amount of brain power needed to stay focused, it is exhausting, art is natural to me and defuses that struggle and expectation of something that comes easy to others, reading. At other times Jenni likes to take her work right back to her routes and her childhood experiences. Her memories in colour, source materials from trips out, family time and conversation. Often starting two or three pieces are a time, mainly works in acrylics applying oil bar drawings on top of space and colour.

Sarah specialises in providing bespoke hand carved items ranging from lettering and relief decoration to producing architectural details such as corbel brackets and ceiling roses. By adding hand carved decoration, items that are otherwise plain and ordinary are transformed into unique pieces that are personal to the owner. This applies just as much to everyday objects such as chopping boards as to more elaborate ornamental features to decorate the home. Wood carving is incredibly versatile and Sarah can either work from existing designs you may have seen or create a completely new piece for you. As well as producing the initial carved work Sarah can offer a variety of finishes including oil and water gilding using genuine Gold and Silver leaf. Sarah's interest in traditional crafts began whilst studying for A Levels in Art & History of Art at the Royal Latin School, Buckinghamshire. Through understanding how the country's great buildings were built and furnished, along with the reasoning behind their design, she developed an even greater respect for their creators and understood why it is important to maintain these buildings for future generations. From Buckingham she moved to Portsmouth to study a degree in Restoration and Decorative Studies at Portsmouth University. Within her first year she had grasped the basics in a variety of traditional decorative techniques including faux finishing, gilding and scagliola. In her final two years she decided to focus her studies on woodcarving and plasterwork- both in a restorative sense and in creating new designs using traditional materials and methods. During her time at University she was provided with the opportunity to hone her skills in both woodcarving and plasterwork. Her projects included 3-coat lime plastering, using the lime plaster she'd made from scratch using traditional recipes. She researched the historic and almost extinct technique of freehand stucco work, creating her own designs and experimenting with various recipes, including those that were used in the restoration of Uppark in Hampshire. Thankfully all that hard work paid off and she graduated with a 1st Class Honours. Sadly, her year was the last to complete this course as the University decided to end it in back in 2008. From Hampshire she was on the move again, this time to Shropshire where she began work with a heritage company. Here she built upon her project managing skills and learnt more about the structural side of building restoration, particularly timber framed buildings. Whilst she enjoyed her time in Shropshire, she decided that she was much happier in her workshop among the sawdust and plaster, which leads her to her current home back in West Sussex.

I am a freelance designer-maker, applied artist, crafts-woman, whatever you want to call me – I stitch stuff by hand; fabric, metal, porcelain, leather, vitreous enamel.. . My work is various, it depends whether I am working for myself, to commission or collaborating with other artists. But whatever I do is slow to make; detailed hand stitching in any material whether in silk, linen, wool or wire takes time, consequently my work is also slow to evolve. I decided to show on this site what I do, who I am work with, how I work and also how I think. I want to show the work behind HER WORK not just the finished things. The journey from the first idea, searching, researching, drawing, sampling and eventually making the finished piece. You will be able to watch my work progress, or not; maybe by seeing this record people will come to value making that is manufactured by hand, heart and eye. In May 2010 I developed – Heart Space Studios ( from my yoga practice “Put your Hands in your Heart Space”) and for 5 years it was a space in Bristol England for all things textile. The activities at the studios can still be viewed – I closed the studio workshops in 2015 – the classes remain on this site as part of the blog, they contain many of my most popular posts….. Heart Space Studios continues as a group of makers who develop projects primarily for publishing companies. Most notably we work with designer Kaffe Fassett in the production of his patchwork quilt books and other fabrics.
