Chrysalis Craft Coventry CIC was founded in March 2020 in response to the urgent unmet needs of BAME and migrant communities who were disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The lockdown has challenged the mental health and wellbeing of everyone, more so for asylum seekers, refugees and migrants in our communities. Many have experienced unimaginable trauma and have seen major disruptions in their life already. The pandemic has amplified further the existing mental health problems. Often left in limbo, not able to take on higher education studies and not allowed to work (with many refugees under or unemployed) and likely to face loneliness or worse, direct discrimination, within their new communities. Chrysalis Craft Coventry CIC run sessions and activities to help with healing, using art and different artistic methods for wellbeing. The aim is to build self-esteem and friendship through artistic techniques, using art to work against loneliness as a result of language, cultural and ability barriers. The social enterprise supports people from a variety of different backgrounds, focussing on disadvantaged adult women immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers. Focusing on women who came to Coventry and the surrounding area recently, and those who have been here for a long time, but who have experienced barriers to integration. Local authority, NHS and charities working with migrants’ commission and refer people onto in-person and online workshops. Grant funding supports materials and content development. Over the short period of the start-up, Chrysalis Craft Coventry CIC supported thousands of individuals suffering from loneliness, domestic abuse, stress, anxiety, depression, homesickness and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder because of life experiences with positive results. During the pandemic the workshops have proven invaluable, acting as a safe environment and an information and signposting service. Directing people to urgently needed services they could not reach due to language barrier or stigma caused by misinformation.

Empowr-U started in March 2018 and began working to transform young people’s lives with outreach projects in areas such as Spon End, Stoke Aldermoor, Manor farm, Tile Hill, Canley and more. We also worked in collaboration with Coventry Boys and Girls Club to transform it into a modern and exciting organisation in the city centre of Coventry, which now serves hundreds of young people from various parts of Coventry. Our work with schools has also enabled many children and young people to improve their lives through mentoring, support groups and projects developing mental health, positive mindset and life skills. We continued to develop our programmes in Coventry and Warwickshire. Our Own-it project engaged nearly 1500 young people in Tile Hill, Canley and Kenilworth. Eagle Nation is a social enterprise that consists to deliver Sports (football, basketball) and music skills in the community for kids and youth. We are passionate about helping kids and young people with sports and music activities, we offer them a traditional football development activity to play a greater role in driving personal and community development in Coventry and Warwickshire. the organization is designed to increase health, wellbeing, confidence, and social skills; using sport and music in the community. The sport and music were the tools that helped us bring the community together and support their mental health by offering a range of activities such as football, basketball, and music lessons to children and youth. Jo has been working in professional and practice development for the past 25 years – predominantly within Mental Health and Local Government and the NHS. First and foremost, she is a practitioner, who brings real front-line experience to the lives of the people and organisations she supports. Her focus has been on service re-design, staff development and appraisals, coaching and 1:1 support. Her particular attention has been working with individuals to assess their strengths and skillset, building on their personal and professional development and helping people build their resilience to effectively navigate personal and organisational change. Her consultancy experience spans Local Authorities, the NHS, Public, Private and 3rd Sector. She is an experienced and effective Executive Coach. She delivers specific programmes in stress management, team building, coaching and effective working relationships underpinned by a strong ethos in strength focussing and asset building. Her work takes her all over the country. Jo is an ILM accredited Executive Coach. She has an first degree BSc in Sociology and Applied Social Sciences from Buckinghamshire University, and a MA in Leadership and Management from Birmingham University. She has a Diploma in Practice Mentoring Assessment. Jo is also qualified with a Level 3 Award in Education and Training (PTLLS). Jo is a highly qualified professional with a wealth of experience in working with a wide range of people.

The Vulnerability Registration Service (VRS) gives vulnerable people a single place to register their status, helping them avoid repeating the same difficult conversations every time they engage with organisations like lenders and creditors. It is a “Not for Profit Company Limited by Guarantee” whose aim is to help vulnerable consumers protect themselves against the financial, social and very personal hardship suffered as a result of debt and financial problems. The stakeholders in the VRS all have experience working in Consumer Credit markets. There are regulatory, compliance, consumer affairs and IT expertise and acknowledged experts on our management team and Board. The VRS has a separate and independent Advisory Board of experts that meets regularly and feeds into the VRS appropriate advice and innovation to help drive the VRS forward. There has been considerable interest shown in the initiative since its launch from consumers and businesses alike. The VRS continues to grow as awareness expands among creditors and service providers of all sectors. Debt advice and mental health organisations are also supportive of the work the VRS does, and using the register to load consenting vulnerable consumers who wish to refer or auto decline lending and credit applications. The VRS provides businesses with instant API decisions and access to upload your consenting vulnerable consumers onto the VRS register. They are also able to upload consenting consumers on the VRS register via Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) and retrieve data from the SFTP.
