Hi, In case we haven't met, I'm Jen and I run workshops and courses in needle and thread.  I've been stitching since a very young age and I'm City and Guilds qualified in patchwork and embroidery. I'm passionate about sewing and textiles and am constantly experimenting with new techniques and designs.  All of my workshops/courses take place in my purpose-built garden studio in the pretty Gloucestershire village of Clearwell.  Classes are offered with a maximum of 4 attendees for machine-based workshops and 6 for hand stitched workshops to ensure a fun and relaxed day, with plenty of 1-2-1 support.   I also offer private tuition so please do get in touch if you would like something that you don't see offered here.  Happy stitching 😊

I set up cheekyhandmades after I left my job 2010. I really wanted to use all my creative skills, skills I’d had for many years but never had time to use any more, and skills I realised I could and wanted to pass on. I also wanted to work for myself, I wanted to be able to work around my children. And I am doing all of that now, and am loving it. I get to be surrounded by like minded people, great fabrics, my kids and cats, and listen to music all day. I get to decide what I do every day and how I do it.

In 2016, I began offering workshops in my studio, located just outside of Coggeshall and a few miles from Colchester. The converted barn provides a creative and supportive hub where I teach groups of up to twelve. Many of my structured textile workshops are taught across one or two days, but I do provide longer, design oriented textile courses and I mentor several groups on an ongoing basis. As my background is in creative textiles all the workshops I offer both in the studio and as a visiting tutor involve free motion embroidery with a design approach. More recently I have begun to take on other textile tutors and I now can offer a much larger range of textile courses including dressmaking, pattern cutting, felting, modern patchwork & Quilting as well as hand embroidery and decorative textiles. As well as textiles I have expanded the workshop itinerary and now offer illustration, lino printing, fused glass and silver clay jewellery on a regular basis with local, fabulous tutors. I hope that regardless of what experience level you have, you will still find something to suit you. So whether you are a beginner or more advanced in your chosen craft, take a look at the full range of workshops available. If you are unsure as to whether you will be able fully participate in a class, then simply get in touch and I would be happy to advise on what is best for you to do. While the majority of the workshops available through this site are based at my studio, I do travel and teach regularly in other local venues and I am happy to go further a field. This allows me to reach more students and collaborate with others, which is something I love to do. I offer a range of structured one and two day workshops to beginners through to more experienced in machine embroidery. Do get in touch if you are a Guild or textile group to discuss your groups requirements and I am a happy to send you a list of workshops I offer. Back to the studio – the current range of workshops will grow over time and I hope to continue offering a wider variety of subjects so if there is something you are interested in but can’t see listed, get in touch! If I have something in high demand, I will do what I can to arrange a workshop around this.

Originally trained in textiles and graduating from Loughborough and Birmingham in the early 90’s, I have worked as a print and embroidery designer for fashion for a number of years. More recently, I’ve enjoyed working across the fields of illustration, printmaking and textile art. I work in both commercial and personal contexts and use a broad range of techniques to create artwork, including drawing, collagraph, mono and linoprinting, hand and machine stitching, and digital techniques. My love of textiles remains strong, with colour, pattern and fabric playing an important role in much of what I do. I work to commissions as well as on my own projects, exhibit regularly, and I also teach a range of art and design subjects in Further Education, and privately too (see Workshops section).

About : I'm Murron Fraser , an artist and printed textile surface designer / teacher based in Manchester in the North west of England. I take inspiration from a variety of places one being nature, translating its forms and natural beauty into original artwork, applied textiles, embroidery and surface print design. After gaining a 1st Class BA (Hons) in Textiles and Surface design, I began designing my own collections as well as working freelance on design projects and collaborating with museums on heritage projects. As well as being a designer, I am also a qualified teacher and teach art and textile courses within the community and educational settings.
