I completed my MSc at the University of Hertfordshire in 2011, followed by my PhD at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) in 2019. My PhD thesis was entitled 'the influence of lower limb biomechanics on the development, persistence and management of patellofemoral pain in recreational runners'. I spent 10 years as a Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist at Pure Sports Medicine, London’s leading private Sports Medicine clinic, where I also acted as the company's Head of Research. In April 2021, I joined the School of Rehabilitation and Exercise Science at the University of Essex as a Lecturer (Education and Research) in Physiotherapy. I am also a post-doctoral Research Fellow in Sports & Exercise Medicine at QMUL and a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire, contributing to their post-graduate physiotherapy programme. I have published in several leading peer-reviewed journals, including the British Journal of Sports Medicine, Gait & Posture and Physical Therapy in Sport, where I am also an editorial advisor. My main research interests are in Patellofemoral Pain and other knee pathologies, biomechanics, running-related injury and the epidemiology of musculoskeletal conditions.

Our approach to behaviour and policy change focuses on working within government and community structures to build the capacity of professionals on a long-term, sustainable basis. We train professionals like teachers, health workers and the police at early stages of their careers, and equip them with the skills to be agents of change in the lives of vulnerable women and girls. Our experience has shown that if we can train one teacher, we can positively impact on the lives of all the children they teach in the course of their teaching career. If we can train one lecturer at a Teacher Training College, we can change the way teachers are trained. If we can change a curriculum, we can change an entire teaching system. OUR METHODOLOGY

anaesthetics for juniors

We developed this Webinar Series because we feel there is a paucity of anaesthetic & ICU teaching in the foundation curriculum. Junior doctors often have to assess and refer critically unwell patients to ICU and/or emergency surgery out of hours with little senior support. In addition, many junior doctors are unaware of their patients’ journey after they are taken to the ICU. This series of webinars will enable junior doctors and medical students to develop this understanding and build their skills and confidence surrounding anaesthesia & intensive care. These webinars will also be an excellent introduction to the specialty for those considering a career in Anaesthetics / Critical Care. The webinars are free to attend, and each attendee will receive a certificate of attendance on completion of feedback for the lecturer.

Nilay Islek was born in Izmir, Turkey. She completed her elementary and high school education in this city. Photography became her interest in her high school years. In 1999, she entered Dokuz Eylül University Fine Art Faculty and graduated with the thesis “Sensual Projections” in 2003. She completed her Master Degree in the same faculty with her thesis “Visual Culture and Social Memory in the Context of Digital Photography Aesthetics” in 2009. Islek started to perform Advertising Photography in 1995 during her education. While she moved up the career ladder, she became a sought instructor and gave lectures in several schools and associations such as Izmir Fen High School and Izmir Association of Photography Art (IFOD). Universiade 2005 Izmir Summer Plays was her first important international event as a member of the editorial board. After that, she has participated in several international events and projects. Her newest project is Izmir- Bremen Photography Artist Residency Program “Elsewhere” between 2017-2018. In the meantime, Nilay Islek started her own atelier, Artlens Visual Culture and Photography, which is a continuing education centre in the field of photography for eight years now. In 2016, Nilay Islek is chosen for the international title of Fujifilm “X-Photographer” as the first woman photographer from Turkey. She’s been given Basic Photography Courses Fujifilm Education Centre in Izmir as the official instructor of Fujifilm. She worked as a lecturer at Izmir Economy University between 2015-2018. On the other hand, her academic career is going on at the Ege University Faculty of Communication, Radio, Television and Cinema PhD program. She lives and continues her life of art in London. Garden of Knowledge institute was established in January 2020 to advance the education of the current and future generations. Mainly focusing on young people and the Muslim community. The organisation was founded by Imam Zeeshan Qayum who graduated from the famous seminary Darul Uloom Al Arabiya Al Islamiya, Bury. After graduating he has governed in structuring many Madaaris across London and has been able to offer a range of skills which he acquired whilst working as an Imam and in high profile roles in the civil service. Currently, Garden of Knowledge is run under the guidance of Hadhrat Mufti Ibrahim Raja Saheb (Senior lecturer of Hadith, Darul Uloom, Bury) and many other senior esteemed Scholars. We aim to provide a range of services that will, Insha Allah, be accessible for all members of every community across London and help to fill in any missing gaps we may have in learning the Deen of Al-Islam.
