FIRST AID SESSIONS FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Children are quite capable of applying First Aid to help others * As a matter of fact, children as young as 3 have saved their parents' lives by staying calm and calling an ambulance * These short sessions will cover a variety of subjects, depending on their age * These sessions can be held as Mini Medics or as other sessions -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SESSION CONTENTS: * For younger primary school children, we tend to cover: * Calling for Help * Recovery Position * Choking * Minor Injuries * For older primary school children, we tend to cover: * Calling for Help * Recovery Position * CPR and Use of an AED * Choking * Minor Injuries * For secondary school pupils, we tend to cover * Calling for Help * Recovery Position * CPR and Use of an AED * Choking * Minor Injuries * Bleeding Injuries BENEFITS OF THIS COURSE: * In order to take part in our Qualsafe Awards Accredited [http://www.qualsafeawards.org/qualifications] training courses, one has to be 14 or 16 years old * Younger children are quite capable of applying First Aid to help others * As a matter of fact, children as young as 3 have saved their parents' lives by staying calm and calling an ambulance * According to the Resuscitation Council UK [https://www.resus.org.uk/], and the European Resuscitation Council [https://www.erc.edu/], all school children should be taught how to perform CPR * Therefore, we are teaching Children and Young People the basics of First Aid in small groups * This QA Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF) qualification is ideal for: * Parents/carers or family members who want to learn key paediatric first aid skills * Those who work with children and are not required to comply with Ofsted’s Childcare Register [https://www.gov.uk/become-childminder-nanny] or Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) 2014 requirements [https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/early-years-foundation-stage-framework--2] * We now also have the option of running these sessions as Mini Medics sessions [https://www.nucotraining.com/mini-medics/] * Just ask! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ACCREDITATION These sessions will not be accredited. * Teaching you how to treat your child should the worst occur * Children can be present, though parents will remain responsible for them throughout * 2.5 - 3 hr sessions -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Course Contents: * What to do if your child goes unconscious * How to check if they are breathing normally or not * If they are, how to put them in the recovery position * If they are not, how to start CPR and use an AED (defibrillator) * What to do if your child were to choke * What to do if they were to get burnt * How to treat minor injuries (dependent on available time) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Past Sessions: * Sessions in the past have been paid for by a local charity, enabling parents to access the training for free * We're happy to put on sessions for your group, playgroup, charity, or simply for you and your children * We're always happy to have little ones come along * They can either play around, or join us - they usually prefer to join us and play with the manikins, even trying out CPR! * You will, of course, remain fully responsible for them while they are there -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Accreditation: These sessions are tailored to the needs of parents and are therefore not accredited.
