Once complete, it provides an excellent foundation for further study for those looking to pursue a career in health and safety and gain qualifications accredited by the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) or NVQ COURSE PROGRAMME AND DURATION The IOSH Managing Safely course takes three full days to complete and covers, in detail, the core responsibilities of anyone tasked with managing workplace health and safety. The IOSH Managing Safelyaward is valid for three years. Award-holders need to undertake this one-day refresher programme every three years in order to maintain their status. This very interactive, practical programme covers: An interactive case study exercise is used throughout the day to apply refreshed knowledge to the plan-do-check-act model and then link it back to the workplace. For example, participants examine the elements of a safety and health policy, come up with ideas to influence safety culture, and select the best communication methods to engage a workforce.

NVQ LEVEL 3 CERTIFICATE IN OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY This qualification is aimed at candidates working as a health and safety practitioner, in a position of responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of a team or organisation. The qualification is generic and appropriate for individuals working in a range of sectors. Furthermore, once you have completed this NVQ you will be able to apply for IOSH status. Induction - As soon as you register you will be given a dedicated assessor. They will arrange an induction and together with your assessor you'll get to decide on the pathway which best proves your competency. The induction is used to plan out how you will gather the relevant evidence to complete the course. During the course - The assessor will work with you to build a portfolio of evidence that allows you to showcase your knowledge, skills and experience. The assessor will also regularly review and provide you with feedback. This will allow you to keep on track to progress quickly. You will be assessed through various methods such as observations, written questions, evidence generated from the workplace, professional discussion and witness testimonials. The importance of personal responsibility. * Defining hazard and risk: Focusing on the six broad hazard groups, participants are asked to think about the hazards and risks they come across in their own work. 'Risk assessment' demystified. * Identifying common hazards: All the main issues - aggression and violence, asbestos, bullying, chemicals and harmful substances, computer workstations, confined spaces, drugs and alcohol, electricity, fire, getting in and out, height, housekeeping, lighting, manual handling, noise, personal hygiene, plant and machinery, slips and trips, stress, temperature, vehicles and transport, and welfare facilities. * Improving safety performance: Bridging the gap between management and workforce, encouraging participants to play their part. This qualification is designed for those learners wishing to become a paediatric first aider in the workplace with a responsibility for the welfare of infants and children. Learners gaining this qualification will know that first aid is the responsibility of everyone involved in the working environment. Topics within this qualification meet the requirements for Paediatric first aid outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage 2014 as being important to maintaining safe and effective practice when providing treatment of injuries and ill health of infants and children who are under the care of trained personnel. How long will it take me to achieve this qualification? This is a 3 credit qualification, with a guided learning hour’s value of 22 and it has a minimum contact time of 12 hours, which is typically delivered via a 2 day course. How is the qualification assessed? Learners must undertake a practical assessment of their competence along with a short open response knowledge assessment, where learners are required to provide a short response to a prescribed series of questions. What next? This qualification lasts for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to retake the course.
