Supplying Free Training to Mexborough Mexborough Resource and Training Centre is located on the corner of Hampden Road/Dolcliffe Road in central Mexborough, easily accessible by car or public transport. Mexborough is in the catchment area for Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster, an often-overlooked fabulous central point for people wishing to access this area of South Yorkshire. The resource centre was recently purchased by Peter Newman, a local businessman, who is also the owner of Mexborough Business Centre. Aquired in December 2015 Peter and his team have successfully built up its tenancy from 25% to 90% capacity, whilst securing an ongoing commitment to the restoration of this original Victorian building. We are hoping to attract training companies looking for new venues in the South Yorkshire area. We will work alongside Mexborough Community Partnership, a social enterprise, who are already based at the Resource Centre in a bid to also attract more community/charity groups who require space and funding.

The Muddy Puddle Teacher Approach is a much-loved teaching method created by teachers to better support vulnerable learners. Including those children who struggle to meet average age expectations, neurodivergent children and those with varying learner types who typically do not flourish from an indoor environment and indoor methods. The approach is worksheet-free, book free and uses active, playful methods to engage children in academic areas of learning. We have different pathways. One route for those in formal settings such as schools and nurseries such as early years educators, LSA’s and teachers. FAQS: Are you like Forest Schools? We are NOT Forest School. We often get confused with Forest School, but we are entirely different. Many of our schools have Forest Schools and Muddy Teachers trained and use both approaches effectively. Forest School is holistic and encourages high risks to promote social and emotional well-being, such as tools and fire and typically is in a woodland area with prolonged amounts of time outside, such as a full day or entire afternoon. Landmarks started to offer day services and post-16 education in March 1995, where the curriculum was largely practical and land-based, working in farm buildings in Creswell, Derbyshire. Since that time Landmarks has grown and developed its educational offer so that by the time of writing this welcome, Landmarks supports over 150 post-16 and day service Learners, all of whom learn a variety of essential life skills from our five sites located across the East Midlands and South Yorkshire. We have changed our curriculum from purely land and animal-based to include several vocational subjects such as; hospitality, catering, cookery, retail, administration and labouring. These additional subjects support our learners to make informed choices about the type of vocations they would like to follow. College life at Landmarks involves being taught in practical, real-life situations, whilst being supported by highly trained and experienced staff who are experts in working with learners with additional needs. It is important for me, as it is for my team, that whilst learners are with us, they focus on developing knowledge, skills and behaviour that makes a real difference to their lives. I hope from reading the case studies and outcomes featured within this website, you can see what difference that focus has made to our learners’ lives. I am extremely proud of all our learners’ achievements, either becoming more independent so that they can attend activities they enjoy or securing employment for the first time in their lives.
