KARATE Karate is a system of self defence and physical culture developed and refined in Okinawa and Japan. There are several styles of karate, they all use slightly different training methods and they all place varying degrees of emphasis on issues such as the speed, strength and range of techniques practised. Shotokan karate (our style) emphasises a balanced development of all these elements, taught within a system which instils confidence and self control. SOUTH NOTTS SHOTOKAN KARATE CLUB The club was established in Keyworth in 1985 by the senior instructor Rob Manning who is a 6th dan black belt and meets at South Wolds School, Keyworth. The club is affiliated to the KUGB (Karate Union of Great Britain) which is a democratic non-profit making organisation recognised by the official European and World governing bodies. TRENT SHOTOKAN KARATE CLUB One of the oldest clubs in the KUGB Trent SKC was established in 1976 and over the years has produced many black belts and enjoyed significant success in competitions. The club meets at Rushcliffe School in West Bridgford. The fundamental objective of both clubs is to develop the art, sport and practice of shotokan karate in South Nottinghamshire. They offer a friendly and welcoming environment for adults of any age, young people and children from six.

Gayle founded Mindproof Ltd after working with adults and young people aged 16+ in mental health for over 10 years, predominantly within NHS services. During her time with the NHS, Gayle has helped many clients overcome a wide variety of common mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, OCD, phobias and trauma and specialises in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as well as EMDR therapy. Gayle is a fully accredited member of the industry’s governing body, the BABCP, which is regarded as the highest ‘gold’ standard a CBT psychotherapist can achieve. Gayle has written several research papers on topics such as burnout and engagement within the workplace and the use of CBT for the prevention of depression, for which she was presented an award from the University of Oxford. Gayle holds a full CBT Diploma and graduated with distinction from the world renowned University of Oxford’s Cognitive Therapy Centre (OCTC). Gayle also has a first class Masters degree in Psychology and has achieved further distinction in postgraduate studies of Psychological Therapies (PG Cert) and has trained to the highest level (Level 3) in EMDR therapy. Gayle has a wealth of experience working both within clinical and non-clinical environments and has run numerous training and workshop sessions for corporates, universities and public sector organisations. Gayle is passionate about enabling people to overcome their mental health difficulties and to develop the mental resilience to lead fulfilling lives and function the way they want to, both now and in the future.

I feel very privileged to be the Headteacher for the West T PeacockBridgford School. It is a school with an excellent academic reputation; we have consistently been the highest performing school in the county for many years in a range of important measures and one of the best schools in the country. Safeguarding is at the heart of our work in school; we recognise that students who do not feel safe and secure are not able to thrive and achieve. Our students feel safe in school, we are a very caring school and pride ourselves on having a strong and highly competent pastoral team. Each year group is led by a teacher in the post of Year Director, supported by a non-teaching Pastoral Assistant who are always on hand to support the students in our care. As a school we do not shy away from difficult conversations with our students and have a lot of experience in doing this. Our consistent academic success owes a great deal to the dedication and hard work of our staff and students over a number of years. We are fortunate to have teachers who are all graduates in the subjects they teach, and students who value education. The vast majority of our student are keen to achieve, resulting in a positive learning environment where success is celebrated.
