Poetry School is a national arts organisation providing inspiring tuition and opportunities for poets and poetry audiences. We were founded in 1997 by poets Mimi Khalvati, Jane Duran and Pascale Petit. Since our earliest days, our courses and activities have encouraged poets and poetry to flourish.

renaissance one - literature curators & producers

As a team of producers, curators, and writers based in regions around England, we reflect the contemporary literature ecology and 21st century working. This makes us responsive, clued up to local needs, and enthusiastic about literature across a range of cities and rural areas. Our main activities take place in the East and West Midlands, Yorkshire, London and the North West. Our work ranges from the curation of book tours, literary readings, spoken word and poetry performances, to educational workshops and mentoring. We populate our festivals and many of our events with a range of backgrounds, cultures, and ages. This makes for lively and engaging events at which literature is centre stage. We do this through curating, programming and producing literature in all its forms – from poetry to prose and satire to spoken word. We’re unique through our independent and entrepreneurial model, and through having a high level of advocacy for writers. Our artistic, social and economic commitment to diversity, and the arts, is reflected through a wide range of projects and events. We encourage and showcase a wide palette of voices.

In my own life I have had to face many challenges, find my own strength and rely on my inner resources. This is why I became a counsellor, I qualified in 1998 and later achieved my registered/accredited status with British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Personal counselling helped me accept myself and gain a better understanding. It has also made me much more resilient in dealing with whatever issues life threw at me. Now, I help others to find their own strength and sense of self through counselling and more recently, poetry therapy. We are all unique and follow our own paths towards change. I know you can change, if that’s what you desire. Having a confidential space, where someone listens to you attentively, and in a non -judgemental manner is the first step. Together, we can explore the sensitive issues which you would prefer to put to the back of your mind, but which keeping nagging at you. I have been on this journey myself, and for over twenty years I have worked in various capacities with people from all walks of life and have seen great results. I have extensive experience as a supervisor of other therapists. I also teach personal development courses at City Lit, adult education college in Central London. I have also facilitated personal development groups for counselling diploma students. Poetry therapy Over the past decade, I have come to experience the transformative power of words. I have facilitated poetry therapy groups and therapeutic writing workshops in a wide variety of settings, including clinical settings, schools, churches, libraries, museums, prisons and The National Archives. I am one of a handful of Certified Poetry Therapists in the U.K, who have completed their training with the International Federation for Biblio/Poetry Therapy in U.S.A.I trained under the mentor ship and supervision of Victoria Field. My Book: Writing for Resilience After implementing therapeutic writing programmes in a wide range of settings. I have used this expertise to produce a workbook. The book began its life during a poetry therapy group that I facilitated for women survivors of trauma in Central London. Together the group decided that they wanted to offer hope to those who had been through similar circumstances and introduce other people to the fantastic resource that is, writing as therapy.

The Feminist Library is a large archive collection of feminist literature, particularly Women’s Liberation Movement materials dating from the late 1960s to the 1990s. We support research, activist and community projects in this field. The Library is also an autonomous feminist community space. The Library is trans-inclusive, welcomes visitors of any gender, does not require registration or membership, and provides an intersectional, non-sectarian space for the exploration of feminism. Originally known as the Women’s Research and Resources Centre (WRRC), the Feminist Library was set up in 1975, at the height of the Women’s Liberation Movement (WLM), a time of intense political campaigning and lively collective organising. Since the Library’s beginnings, it has provided a place where women could network and educate themselves, and has become a contact point for women locally, nationally and internationally. Today the Library continues its drive for inclusion and accessibility. The Library is run by a collective of volunteers, with a management structure committed to making decisions by consensus. Network of Eritrean Women-UK (NEW-UK) is the only specialist organization in the UK supporting the needs of Eritrean women. NEW-UK is a women's non-profit organization set up to support Eritrean women. Our aim is to facilitate the tools for Eritrean women to assert their human rights and pursue personal empowerment, development and social change. We are a holistic organization and provide cultural and linguistic specialist advice, information, advocacy, workshops and wellbeing drop targeted to support Eritrean women. NEW-UK launched in 2014 following the critical need for a UK-wide support network to mobilize information and resources for Eritrean women, many of whom have fled the brutal dictatorship in Eritrea and forced conscription. We support many Eritrean refugee and asylum-seeking women who have endured a significant amount of trauma and many of whom are suffering in silence.

Launched in 2020, the London Fungus Network aims to connect mycologically-curious humans with the urban Fungal Kingdom/Queendom. We are part of London Park National City, an initiative to make London a greener, wilder, healthier (and more mushroomy) place.

We exist to work together with the local community to enable North Kensington to thrive. We dedicate ourselves to the wellbeing of this vibrant community. We work with over 60 member organisations ranging from community groups and residents’ associations to schools and sports clubs, as well as other local groups and people. Our vision is sustainable wellbeing in North Kensington in three ways: Social Wellbeing, Environmental Wellbeing and Economic Wellbeing.
